Vrynsyss

Vrynsyss is a language that is primarily used by the Eslyat race throughout the Eslyat Magistracy polity and its Sesshayr Theocracy.

Description (Specifications)

This is the primary language of the Eslyat minor race of the Vanguard Reaches. Few non-Eslyat are skilled in this unusual language with its subtle shades of meaning. Vrynsyss, while simple to speak and write, is intricate in its grammatical characteristics.

Two forms of this language exist, known as "wet" and "dry", intended for use underwater and above water respectively.

Grammar

The changing of one or two letters in a verb alters meaning drastically. Verbs conjugate with the use of endings and have no intrinsic person, number or gender.

• For example, "fenser" (walk, walks, will walk), "fenshyf" (do, [does, will,] not walk), "fenssendy" (walk [imperative]), "fenslule" (I will walk, or, let us walk), or "fenskyes" (walk, has [have] walked).

Such grammatical features as subject and object are expressed as case distinctions with particles added to the ends of words.

• For example, "ceskessi" (a man), "ceskessa" (of a man), "ceskesso" (from a man).

Most of these endings are irregular in form and must be learned by rote memorization. Personal pronouns have a complex and intricate system, depending upon the social relationship of the addresser and addressee, including sex and age of the speaker.

Lexicon

• Chutin: Sub-race of red-scaled Eslyat. In modern culture, a caste of police, warriors, sports performers, explorers, and first-level supervisors.

• Krysha: Filter-feeding animals from the Eslyat homeworld of Elliador.

• Magsin: Sub-race of green-scaled Eslyat. A working class in modern Eslyat society.

• Selyin: Sub-race of blue-scaled Eslyat, today an upper class of nobility, scholars and merchants.

• Shushrusar Eslyato: "Eslyat Magistracy"; the interstellar government of the Eslyat.

• Shushrusar: "Judgement" or "decision".

• Shyshur: An honorific, akin to "guru".

• Syrkisya: An animal, the polyps of which feed a great variety of sea life.
