A Hercules class Commercial Tender.
Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]
No. | Category | Remarks |
---|---|---|
1. | Tonnage | The Commercial Tender is constructed using a 3,500 dTon hull built in a generally conical configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving good atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems.
|
2. | Crew | x44 personnel.
Accommodations
Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-2 drive, and a Power Plant-2, giving performance of Jump-2 and 2-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for one Jump-2 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/2 computer: the vessel has a backup Model/2 computer.
|
5. | Hardpoints | x35 hardpoints.
|
6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out for a Commercial Tender is:
|
7. | Defenses | The hull is unarmored.
|
8. | Craft | Commercial Hangers
Internal commercial hanger space amounts to 1100 dTons. Ships berthing within the hanger require their displacement tonnage x1.1 in terms of space: ships of greater than 500 dTons are generally unable to enter the hanger due to size restrictions. Flight Section
It is not unusual for Commercial Tenders to dispose of these vessels, replacing them with a single smaller smallcraft such as a Pinnace. |
9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 1,170 dTons.
|
10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel, complete with its complement of subcraft, is MCr2,043.918 |
11. | Construction Time | 84 weeks (21 months) as standard.
|
12. | Comments | Standard cargo capacity amounts to 66 dTons, though hanger space may be used to store cargo.
|
History & Background (Dossier)
The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces. The vessel uses the same basic hull as the Provincial Freighter.
- Vessels of this type are employed in the Recovery Trade.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities
Different examples of the design are known by many different names but all have very similar performance characteristics and capabilities.
