The Type VJ class Seeker is a TL–9 prospecting starship.

Description[edit]

Vargr Seeker (Type VJ): Using a 200-ton hull, the Vargr Seeker is a wide-ranging prospecting and mining vessel. It mounts a Jump drive-A, Maneuver drive-A, and Power plant-A, providing a performance of Jump-1 and 1G acceleration. Fuel tankage for 50 tons supports the power plant and one Jump-1. Adjacent to the bridge is a model/1 computer. There are four staterooms and one emergency low berth. The ship has two hardpoints and two tons allocated to fire control. Installed on the hardpoints are two single turrets: Each mounts one pulse laser. The weaponry is primarily used for mining operations. There is one ship's vehicle: A ship's boat. Cargo capacity (...primarily for ore) is 65 tons. The hull is not streamlined but the close structure allows cautious skimming of gas giants for fuel. There is no purification plant. The ship can only operate in type 0 or 1 atmospheres.

The Vargr Seeker requires a crew of four: pilot, navigator, engineer, and medic. Additional crew members may be added as workers. The pilot operates the ship's boat. The ship does not normally carry passengers. The ship costs MCr42.4503 (...including architect's fees, but not standard discount; exact price may vary) and takes 9 months to build.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]

Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

  • With careful fuel management the Type VJ is capable of two consecutive Jump-1's. Book 2 Starships shows ten tons of fuel allows for four weeks of power and maneuvering. Each jump takes one week and consumes twenty tons of fuel, so the ship will have enough fuel remaining for two weeks of maneuvering before consuming all fuel.
