Rrev Rigr is a non-agricultural and nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- It has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Khouth Subsector of Corridor Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- During the Long Night this world was named Dirge Iim.
- About 60% of the population is composed of Vargr.
- About 40% of the population is composed of baseline humans and other non-human sophonts.
- It is a member of the Dzarrgh Run.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Rrev Rigr has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Rrev Rigr is a Small World between 900km and 2,400km in diameter. The world has very low gravity between 0.05G and 0.09G. The horizon will appear about 2km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Rrev Rigr has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Rrev Rigr has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rrev Rigr is a member of the Dzarrgh Run, a small but important Main crossing between Tuglikki, Provence, Deneb, and Corridor Sectors.
- High cargo capacity, low jump rating vessels move among its systems, carrying vast amounts of goods and commodities between its member worlds.
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map)
- Worlds lying on the Run are highlighted in tan.
The population of the world is a mixed human-Vargr one, ruled by a Vargr constitutional monarchy.
- The world rates a 9 on the Tetusu-Dene scale, one of the highest in the coreward regions of Charted Space. Race relations are placid.
It is said that a wise man never underestimates another sentient race in its capacity for a sense of humor. Rrev Rigr is apparently a phrase in the Gvegh language meaning "I've got sand in my shorts." In the Aekhu language it means pretty much the same thing, except that a black mineral replaces the word "sand" -- in either case it isn't a very flattering term. No matter the etymology of its name, the world is a fairly prosperous mining outpost that extracts and exports high quality ores necessary for the manufacture of lightweight ferroalloys.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Rrev Rigr has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- ca -250,000: The Ancients were active within the region, transplanting the Vargr onto Lair.
- -9235: The Vilani discover jump technology. A few explorers and settlers begin to pioneer the region.
- -4045 to -2204: The Ziru Sirka claims a few rimward worlds and establishes a firm border. The Windhorn Rift and the absence of any significant Mains discourages large-scale Vilani expansion into the region.
- -3810: The Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -2400s: Vargr raiding into human-dominated areas significantly increases. This becomes known as the Vargr Pillaging.
- ca -1700: Vargr rimward expansion gradually ceases: the border between human and Vargr space stabilizes.
- -1776 to 0: The Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- The Year 0: To rimward-trailing, the Third Imperium is founded.
- circa 26: The Empire of Varroerth is founded.
- early 100s: The Contract of Taarskoerzn is founded.
- 300-420: The Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- early 400s: The Irrgh Manifest is founded: it absorbs the Contract of Taarskoerzn.
- mid 500s: The Knokseng Confederation is founded.
- 869: The Glory of Taarskoerzn is founded. It splits the Irrgh Manifest.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: The Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1080s: The Knokseng Confederation is dissolved.
- 1090: The Dzarrgh Federate is formed.
Later Eras[edit]
Rebellion[edit]
After the Dzarrgh Federate took over the world in 1116, some of its representatives quickly found disapproval with this unwarranted peace. This took the form of racist demagoguery on the part of the Church of the Chosen Ones, aimed at riling up the local Vargr against their human neighbors. To their credit they resisted this hectoring, and in some cases attacked COTCO priests and missionaries. This violence was not well taken by the Federate governor, who began a campaign of species cleansing, confiscating property from the human population and deporting them to the Domain of Deneb. A significant portion of the Vargr population left in protest and solidarity, and their descendants continue to live in joint communities in Namidshur Subsector.
