History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Qarant is a Danger World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
Qarant was a major focal point of disputes between the League of Suns and the Descarothe Hegemony. Equal exploitation rights were granted to both parties in the 1105 Treaty of Alzenei; the Hegemony didn't send a mission to the world until late in 1107. By convention, two separate areas were established on Qarant, with each side staying in the zone granted for research and excavations. Small landing facilities are available at several of the larger dig sites.
Archeological investigations on the world have indicated that the primitive TL–2 culture which once inhabited the planet was descended from the so-called Sky Raiders, a race of immigrants to the Far Frontiers Sector who flourished some 5,000 years ago.
These discoveries were among the factors which caused the Crisis of 1108.
Travel Advisory[edit]
The League of Suns have issued warnings to citizens of the League concerning travel to Hegemony worlds, due to the Hegemony's now-notorious distrust for outsiders, the hostile attitude expressed towards the League, and the strength and zeal of Hegemony military security forces.
- The MeRaZhar, the State security forces, keep close watch on offworlders.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Qarant has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Qarant has population of 600 sophonts (hundreds).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
- The population has Zhodani, Imperial, and Vlazhdumecta heritage.
- Many families can trace their ancestry to pre-Long Night Vilani colonists.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Descar, a local language with Vlazhdumecta and Vilani origins.
- Local languages descended from Vlazhdumecta.
- Riftian Anglic, a dialect of one of the two principal languages of the Imperium.
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani and the Zhodani Consulate.

World Law (L)[edit]
Qarant has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
