The Model 225 class Scout is a TL–12 Scout.

Description[edit]

Common in the Drexilthar Subsector and the Caledon Subsector in the Reaver's Deep Sector these started life as high-performance scouts.

The targeting and tracking telescope arrays have excellent passive resolution for multiple sensor tracks across the EMS. With jump 3 range and 3G acceleration they are faster than much of the competition and a few of the pirates. They are delivered armed with a pair of triple turrets. These are typically mixed turrets with a missile rack, beam laser and sand caster in each. Capable of putting up a fight and buying some time to escape. The model 3 computer is mounted adjacent to the bridge. There are six staterooms for single occupancy of the crew. The crew deck is arranged around a small hydroponic garden with the backup life support rigging.

There are six lowberths in the medical cryovault which can be pressed into service for six low passengers. The previous model of DRKTMB 001 emergency lowberths were recalled after several incidents when all four persons failed to survive revivification.

They are gorgeous ships, a slippery needle wedge with outrigger jump nacelles and a large rectangular maneuver drive venturi aft. There is a dorsal and ventral turret, and the wings are swept down and to the rear like some fast predatory avian.

History & Background[edit]

Designed by Starstream once the prototype passed trials an initial delivery of several hulls were laid down at Stirling (Reaver's Deep 1415) and the rest were built later at Caledon (Reaver's Deep 1815). Some still serve with the Royal Caledonian Expeditionary Service others with the Caledon Royal Mail service. A portion have been demobilized and decommissioned. These vessels found a second life as free traders. Sold off at auction they have changed hands several times. Their mil-spec TL–12 construction means they can survive lengthy careers with good annual maintenance of the high-performance drives. Released from moth balls their legendary reliability and ease of maintenance made them attractive to privately own. Private users praise the sensitive scout sensor packages which were never removed prior to sale.

Some brave or foolish captains forgo carrying gunners to free up passenger space and lower their crew payroll costs. If the full crew can tolerate double occupancy, they can carry up to three middle passengers.

The modest 30ton cargo bay means that clever speculation is necessary to turn a profit. Either that or you need to know an excellent broker.
