Linguistic Topography: 1105[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:

  • !kee: The common language used by K'kree throughout the Two Thousand Worlds.
  • Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds; in this region, mostly variant dialects.
  • Gurvin: The common language of the Hive Federation and a secondary language in many of its client states.
  • Hiver Sign Language: The silent, visual language used naturally by Hivers.
  • Ithkluri: The common language of the Ithklur, and used in conjunction with Gurvin throughout the Hive Federation and adjacent space.
  • Jethra: The dominant language of the Lithkind and the state language of the Sha Elden Lith Kindriu.
    • Used by Ileet outposts, and as a second language on some worlds in the subsector's spinward regions.
  • Raxkiir: A language developed by clients of the K'kree, a heavily derived variant of !kee suitable for humanoid use. It is commonly used by those trading with K'kree interests, as well as client races acting on behalf of the Two Thousand Worlds.
  • Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium and common to many human worlds; in this region, mostly variant dialects.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

A zone of expansion for the Two Thousand Worlds during the K'kree Crusade, K'trekreer was one of the theatres for war when the Hivers began organizing a regional resistance to the invasion. The native Orarnak were aided and reinforced by the Hivers and their partners (another way of phrasing it would be, they were Manipulated extensively), and the K'kree advance was blunted. Following the war's conclusion, and the K'kree refusal to engage with Hivers any further, the region settled into a wary peace. The Orarnak joined the Hive Federation, retaining a sizeable cultural region as a subdivision of the polity. Meanwhile, their neighbours and wartime allies in Gzirr!k'l Sector were less committed -- the Krotan Primacy, while initially pro-Hiver, declared its independence following revelations of past Manipulation (though it remains a close partner of many member cultures), while the Lithkind distrusted Hiver Manipulation and kept them at arm's length while still technically being allied. While the Orarnak Cultural Region is the most notable Federation member nation in K'trekreer, mention should also be made of the Onoxyl Hegemony, an agricultural provider in the sector's trailing-rimward corner.

The Irkan are a client state of the Hive Federation, with the Uakmotra Irkan Subsector (Subsector P), left unclaimed by the Hivers in respect for Irkan independence (until such time, presumably, as an ambitious Manipulator decides to try incorporating them and successfully resists counter-Manipulations aimed at keeping the status quo.)

Major Historical Events Timeline: 1116[edit]

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this sector:

  • -4678: Hivers invent the jump drive, thus becoming a Major Race.
  • -4100: Hiver explorers discover Loza'tch and the Za'tachk civilization.
  • -4050: An exploratory Hiver vessel arrives in the Ofilaq system and discovers the Gurvin.
  • -3986: The Hivers are shocked to encounter the Ithklur, a race far more violent than any encountered previously.
  • -3548: Eager to present a united front to acquire jump-2 drive from the Hivers, the Gurvin form the Gurvin Interstellar Democratic Republic and make an official request to join the nascent Hive Federation and be provided with jump-2. The Hivers declare the Gurvin an "adult" species and agree.
  • Circa -2900: After a millennium of Manipulation, the Ithklur take their place as an important member of the Hiver interstellar community.
  • -2029 to -2013: The Hiver-K'kree War threatens the Hiver community.
    • -2023 to -2018: As a consequence of organizing defence during the war, the modern Hive Federation is codified.
    • Technological aid to nations like the Krotan Primacy and the Sha Elden Lith Kindriu results in a "hardening" of the K'kree-Hiver border.
    • The K'kree surrender and withdrawal is claimed to be the result of Hiver psychohistorical manipulation. Ithklur history, in the form of the Dikrah Kiradgi, records a different version of events.
  • The Year 0: Far to spinward, the Third Imperium is founded.
  • 410: To aid in administration of the Young Worlds, the Hive Federation capital is moved to Glea.
  • 995 to 1065: The Imperial Second Survey.

Politics & Diplomacy (Interstellar Relations)[edit]

This is one of the most heavily militarised parts of the Hive Federation. While there are few standing forces of warships, the resources allocated to this sector could put together a potent defensive force in a short time. Some systems are sufficiently heavily defended to be considered 'fortress worlds' but their locations are haphazard by the standards of races more strategically-minded than Hivers.
