Glea is a rich world.

  • As a rich world, this planet has high-grade living conditions and is highly sought after by immigrating sophonts.
  • This world has a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Some of the sources of this world's wealth are well known, but others remain a mystery. Many speculate on these mysterious sources of wealth. Some even investigate them... to no avail yet.
  • This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • It is a member of the Hive Federation in the Liana Subsector of Centrax Sector.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

This world is the center of the Glean Cluster, an unusually rich grouping of seventeen Hiver-habitable worlds, mutually accessible by Jump-1 shipping.

Stellar Data[edit]

Glea has a solitary primary star.

System Data[edit]

Glea orbits New Primary, a solitary G0 V star slightly brighter and hotter than Sol. Luminosity is 1.21. Effective temperature is 6,000° K. Radius is 1.03; mass is 1.04. Glea orbits New Primary at 1 AU with a period of 358 days. Orbital eccentricity is negligible.

Mainworld Data[edit]

While not a garden world, Glea is practically a paradise, and full of beautiful scenery and fantastic weather including semi-regular meteor shower shows put on by nature. [2]

The world is well developed and quite rich, with several highports, shipyards, and orbital factories. Most industry is located in orbit and the surface is primarily reserved for residential habitation and tourism. The world's oceans are gorgeous with amazing maritime yachting and teem with delicious sealife foodstuffs. The undersea environment has been extensively inhabited with TL:10-12 and TL:13-15 undersea hab domes. The population is capped by law and it may be challenging to buy property or acquire a residency permit. [3]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Glea is 9,580 kilometers in diameter and rotates on its axis once in about 22 hours. The average temperature for Glea is 22° C.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Glea has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Seventy percent of the world is covered with three water oceans; icecaps cover about 10% of the polar regions. Two of the oceans, the Northern and the Spreading, are very deep. Two continental plates grow from a ridge under the Spreading Ocean. The Breathing Ocean is much more shallow.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

There are three continents on Glea.

A large number of islands and archipelagos are also present. The underwater topography of the world is fantastically complex and has been studied for well over a millennium. [4]

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Glea has a diverse and highly complex biosphere, consisting of many lifeforms corresponding to flora and fauna. Cephalopods and giant insects are common.

Certain carnivorous lifeforms -- and the habitats supporting them -- are protected due to their important role in predation of Hiver larvae. Hiver intelligence is the product of environmental stresses in infancy; avoiding these perils triggers the larva's capacity for consciousness.

The chief predator of Hiver larvae on Glea is the Wind Wasp.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

This world is the main coordinating center and Capital of the Hive Federation since 410. Glea was settled by Hivers in -866.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Glea has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Hiver Sophont Comparison.jpg

Glea has a population of 700,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).

World Demographics[edit]

  • Hivers, population 50%
  • Other, 50%

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

The world is populated with numerous cities or urbs with many of them rated as metropolises. Arcologies also exist, but no beanstalk. Local environmental regulations have prohibited the construction of one. [5]

The capital, Phiikkoh, is immense and very cosmopolitan.

Hivers are fond of rounded shapes, domes, spheres and non-Euclidian architecture. This is ironic in that many schools of Hiver starship construction are focused around the opposite -- extremely square, boxy ships.

  • Hivers like small, cramped domiciles with defined spaces and solid walls. Much of a Hiver nest is subterranean.
  • Pet Snohl may be found in the deeper nests.

World Government (G)[edit]

Glea has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.

  • Cosmopolitan influences and a desire to have a non-Hiver world as the seat of government for the combined Hiver and non-Hiver populations of the Federation led to the transfer of the state's Capital to the world in 410.
  • Glea has a Federation Embassy Center.
  • The Federation maintains its major governmental apparatus on Glea:
  • All have major installations on the world. There is no formal world government, however, and all governmental activities are in the hands of the local nests. Non-Hivers either maintain local organizations similar to nests, or are under the control of Hiver nests.

World Military[edit]

Glea has a Federation Embassy Center. Naval and military bases are not present, although such bases have been established in nearby systems.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Glea has no law level.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Glea possesses a Technology Level of TL–15 or TL-F in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Economy[edit]

The Hive Federation currency (or closest equivalent) is the Biyzihn.

Trade Data[edit]

Glea has a trade classification of Rich.

World Infrastructure[edit]

This world possesses extensive, well developed infrastructure of a variety of kinds.
