System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Loza'tch is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Loza'tch has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Loza'tch has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

The planet's surface consists of a single supercontinent called Vaxitraq.

  • Vaxitraq Supercontinent
    • Six major mountain ranges
  • Alirkli Xum: Built outside the capital city, this is an immense museum, art gallery and monument.
  • Kagar Lorapqooh: Recognised as the site where the first contact between Za'tachk and Hiver occurred, a reserve kept in as close a condition to how it was at that time as possible.
  • Olenkakac Gurvinfanai: Located in the startown, this is a trade bazaar owned and operated by Gurvin.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Plant life defends itself with toxins. The Za'tachk evolved sensitive bitterness preceptors in their mouth lining to assist them in discerning which plants were best to eat. To further aid in the digestion of native plants, Za'tachk consume clay which lines their stomachs and binds with the toxins.

Fauna:

  • Anaroth: A heavy, short-tempered herbivore
  • Caoua: A fast predator
  • Droosen: Small, communal animals the size of a Terran monkey, a relatively distant cousin of Za'tachk
  • Gimzikgaa: Domesticated for its milk-analogue and as a food animal
  • Kiikuuka: A desert-dwelling rodent-like animal with thick plate-like growths
  • Muulag: A large herbivore evolved to live in cold climates
  • Nootrook: A heavy beast of burden
  • Shemgikim: a long-legged herbivore domesticated by the Za'tachk

Native Sophont (NIL): Za'tachk[edit]

The Za'tachk are descended from trisexual omnivore/gatherers. They are quadrupedal; like the Hivers, they use their limbs equally well for movement or grasping. They are similar in size and weight to the Hivers.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Loza'tch is a high-population Hive Federation world located in Za'tachk, subsector K of Wrenton Sector.

World Starport[edit]

Loza'tch has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • There is an associated Naval Base.
  • The Downport's associated startown features the Olenkakac Gurvinfanai, a trade bazaar owned and operated by Gurvin.

World Population (P)[edit]

Loza'tch has a population of 20,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).

World Demographics[edit]

No Ithklur are permitted on Loza'tch, as the conflict-averse and timid Za'tachk find them alarming.

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Za'tachk feel comfortable and safe in large groups; being alone means nobody can assist them if they are threatened or endangered, and Za'tachk are notoriously timid. Za'tachk cities are crowded, noisy and busy places.

World Technology Level[edit]

Loza'tch possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Loza'tch is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

This is the capital of the Za'tachk Alignment subpolity. Local government of Loza'tch -- the Za'tachk Home Union -- comprises three councils (as expected from Za'tachk), one each for the executive, representative and judicial branches of governance.

World Military[edit]

The standard military is equipped with TL-10 gear, while elite forces are equipped with TL-11 or 12 equipment imported from offworld. Renowned for their timidity, Za'tachk make heavy use of drones piloted remotely, from a safe distance.

The flagship of the planetary navy is a TL-10 65,000-ton heavy cruiser, the Lodrenakinuth.

As a member of the Hive Federation, Loza'tch can theoretically call upon Ithklur warriors as well as its own defence forces. However, the timid Za'tachk are wary of Ithklur, whose exuberant violence they find alarming.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Loza'tch has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

On Za'tachk worlds, police rarely carry lethal weaponry. Instead, they use a kaath device, which fires an electrical induction beam that stimulates the brain's pleasure centre, rendering those hit helpless for a brief time.

Za'tachk law assumes an individual is innocent until proven guilty. They utilise lawyers to defend or prosecute the accused. Legal trickery is severely penalised.

World Economy[edit]

Loza'tch primarily imports raw materials for manufacturing weapons (an irony often noted, given the peaceful and timid nature of the locals), basic consumables and luxury items. Primary exports, apart from weapons, are composite alloys and information.

Heavy industrial areas are located on the outskirts of cities, away from habitation areas. This is yet another reflection of the overly cautious Za'tachk mindset.

World Culture[edit]

Za'tachk instinctively seek to escape uncertainty or aggression by achieving "higher ground"; this can be literal, or an appeal to moral establishment, proven theories, or tradition. Culture is structured and stylised, with little initiative.

Za'tachk have no rituals around the consumption of food. There are no standard mealtimes, nor a tendency to gather together specifically to eat. Instead, Za'tachk graze throughout the day, regardless of where they are and what they are doing. Za'tachk always carry food with them as a matter of course and every gathering will include a selection of foods, regardless of the formality.

Theatre is a popular entertainment. Like their other art forms, Za'tachk theatre is rather soulless and dry, being more akin to a history lesson than art.
