History & Background[edit]

The known history of Kilong Sector is punctuated by only a few significant events, as the overwhelming presence of the K'kree is notable for few widely known or notable events.

Thousands of years before the K'kree arrived here, the Menetha arose on a now unidentified world, developed industry, spaceflight, and eventually massive generation ships powered by NAFAL drives. They explored broadly for millenia, settling on friendly worlds here and in X'kug Sector, experiencing collapses of civilization on some worlds while thriving on others, at least for a while. While little survived the efforts of the K'kree later, it is thought that the many Menetha worlds all fell prey to the cycles of civilization collapse and rebuilding, with each world suffering and succeeding on its own terms. Rarely were these worlds in sync, but it happened as the K'kree arrived. All of the surviving Menetha worlds were in decline or fully collapsed when the K'kree arrived. This would prove to be fortunate for them.

The K'kree Crusade came relatively late to the sector, as their early efforts were channeled by the massive Kirur Main which does not reach here. Exploration and extermination did eventually arrive here via offshoots of the Golden Herd as they moved into X'kug Sector. Later herds would follow as the momentum of the Golden Herd fell off, and Kilong is home to several of the lesser Crusade herds, making K'kree politics here lively.

The homeworld of the Tilpish was an early find by the K'kree, in Tooeek' Subsector. While the K'kree would approach the Tilpish and issue the usual ultimatums, the Tilpish did not react as expected. Factions arose, determined to either comply with or defy the ultimatums. This quickly escalated into war, which the K'kree watched with bemusement from orbit. Wars of unification were a concept the K'kree understood, though the example before them was quite striking. Unlike the K'kree unification, the Tilpish unification took generations, but eventually ended with the victory of a coalition who wanted to join the K'kree. For their part, the K'kree lords of the Golden Herd accepted the pledge of the Tilpish, but it would take several more generations before they were trusted enough to become true clients of the K'kree.

As the Crusade ground farther to rimward, using Kilong and X'kug Sector as bases of supply, the K'kree encountered the Hivers and their client species. War was immediate, and was settled only when the Hivers demonstrated that they could change the K'kree whenever and however they wanted. This was done to settled K'kree in a cluster of worlds in Kilong, and ended the war once the handywork of the Hivers was displayed. The K'kree scrubbed and interdicted the worlds, which remain unsettled even thousands of years later, long after the dust of the dead had settled.

The K'kree began to consolidate their presence in Kilong once it was apparent their borders would no longer be expanding. Foothold worlds became foundations of industry, and the population of the sector surged as only the K'kree could carry out. During this period, the secret of the isolated worlds of the Menetha was finally discovered, and they were categorically exterminated. The K'kree believe that no Menetha remain alive anywhere in the reach of the Two Thousand Worlds, and they may be right.
