Cantrel supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. It is a member of Zhodani Consulate in the Cronor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Province of Iadr Nsobl.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Cantrel has a solitary primary star.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x9 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Cantrel is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Cantrel has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Cantrel has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Cantrel's population are all farmers, who have set up a collection of small farmsteads along the coast of the northern continent. The rest of the world remains unexplored, with jungles and mountains that teem with life. A set of ruins was discovered in the southern mountains, but as yet neither age nor origin has been discovered.[2]
- A minority of popular Zhodani foodstuffs are not digestible by other Human races; eating them may result in food poisoning. Restaurants and food shops in regions frequented by non-Zhodani Humans, such as this world's startown, have menus or labels that mark which foods are appropriate for non-Zhodani.
The Consulate has transferred all "incurably insane" Zhodani from Chronor to Cantrel and Rasatt. Currently, the worlds are ruled as "wards of the state" by Consulate appointed governors, but are exploring the possibilities of self-rule. These worlds are all classified as Amber Zones by the Consulate, because of the danger presented by their unstable occupants. Despite that, the Consulate does not wish to fully interdict the worlds, instead hoping that continued interstellar contact with Zhodani culture at large will allow them to eventually recover.[3]
The Zhodani Navy regularly conducts military exercises in Cantrel's outer system.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Cantrel has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Cantrel has population of 500 sophonts (hundreds).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Zdetl, the language of the Zhodani Consulate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Cantrel possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Cantrel is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law (L)[edit]
Cantrel has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
