Successors to Strephon

As of 1116, the Moot has been unable to decide upon a proper successor, but six seperate factions are competing for parts of the Imperium, not to mention foreign governments (primarily Aslan, Solomani, and Vargr) who are able to take advantage of the situation.

The various factions of the Rebellion subsequent to the assassination of Emperor Strephon include the following:

Details

1. Archduke Brzk of Antares (League of Antares)

A Vargr, Brzk initially believed he could make a bid for the Iridium Throne. However, he eventually realized that he would never be accepted as readily as a Human. He secured the Domain of Antares and merged it with and expanded it as the League of Antares and used his personal charisma to control it. The eventual peace he waited for did not come, however.

2. Archduke Norris of Deneb (Domain of Deneb)

Upon the eve of the Rebellion, Duke Norris of Regina had received by a strange turn of providence the elevation to the position of 1st Archduke of the Domain of Deneb by the hand of Emperor Strephon shortly before his assassination. Due to lag of interstellar communication, the events of the Rebellion would already be in motion by the time he and the rest of the Domain were made aware of the appointment. Norris's response was to secure the Domain and remain neutral in the conflict, holding the Domain in trust until the resolution of the conflict.

3. Duchess Margaret of Delphi & Anaxias ("Margaret's Stronghold")

With the immediate ascension of Lucan to the Iridium Throne as Lucan I without Moot confirmation, and his subsequent erratic behavior and disbanding of the Moot, many nobles of a more conservative bent in the Moot looked for a more suitable candidate for the throne apart from the assassin/usurper or the immediate heir-by-bloodline. The next surviving relative in line of succession in the Imperial family was Princess Margaret, who represents to many a return to the stability of the former Imperial order. Margaret is a first cousin (once removed) of Emperor Strephon and the wife of Count Blaine Trulla Tukera (of the Tukera Lines megacorporation Tukeras). Princess Margaret is the Duchess of Anaxias and as such is the Subsector Governor of Anaxias Subsector. As it so happens Princess Margaret is styled the 3rd Duchess of the Dukes of Delphi & Anaxias, a ceremonial title created and granted to her grandmother which (unusually) both includes and enshrines the responsibilities of the local Sector Duke of Delphi with the responsibilities of the Subsector Governorship of the Duke of Anaxias.

4. Archduke Dulinor of Ilelish (later the Federation of Ilelish)

"Emperor" Dulinor I: Also known as "Dulinor the Usurper". Born in 1066, Strephon's murderer proclaimed himself emperor by the so-called Right of Assassination and then fled with his black-garbed troops to his home world of Dlan/Ilelish. Duke Dulinor of Dlan, who had convinced Strephon that he was one of his closest friends, was appointed Archduke of Ilelish in 1104, an action opposed by most nobility. Dulinor's murder of the Yerlyaruiwo Aslan ambassador is blamed for Aslan Ihatei incursions into Imperial territory. In the latter years of the conflict, the territory under Dulinor's control (largely the region of the former Domain of Ilelish) came to be known as the Federation of Ilelish.

5. The Federation of Daibei led by Duke Craig of Warinir

Solomani Confederation and Aslan incursions into Imperial territory along Daibei and Diaspora Sectors made possible by the disorder caused by the assassination of the Emperor caused the Duke of Warinir, Craig Anton Horvath as Sector Duke of Daibei, to declare independence from the Domain of Ilelish upon "Emperor" Dulinor's call to send Sector Fleets in support of him against Emperor Lucan. Duke Craig subsequently declared the establishment of the Federation of Daibei in order to secure the Sector border and the safety of the Imperial citizens under his oversight.

7. The Ishimkarun of the Ziru Sirkaa, the former Archduke of Vland (Ishuggi Tauribi)

Vargr incursions into Imperial territory along Corridor and Vland Sectors made possible by the disorder caused by the assassination of the Emperor caused the Kibarad (Archduke) Ishuggi Tauribi of Vland, as "Apkallu Kibrat Arban", to declare independence from the Imperium upon Emperor Lucan's call to send Domain Fleets in support of him against Dulinor the Usurper. Kibarad Ishuggi subsequently declared the reestablishment of the Ziru Sirka in the Domain of Vland as the "Ziru Sirkaa", and Kibarad Ishuggi was subsequently declared to be the new Ishimkarun of the Ziru Sirkaa, or Shadow Emperor of the Restored Vilani Grand Empire of Stars.

8. Prince Lucan of the Imperial Family (Lucan's Imperium)

The nephew of Strephon by his sister Lydia, Lucan assumed the Iridium Throne as Emperor Lucan I without Moot Proclamation after the deaths of Strephon and Grand Princess Ciencia Iphigenia. He is the younger brother of the twin Princes Varian and Lucan by Duke Dresden and Princess Lydia, Varian having supposedly been shot by one of the collaborating assassins in private quarters while Lucan survived.

Dulinor I: Born in 1066 on Dlan (Ilelish 1021), Archduke Dulinor Astrin Ilethian assumed the Iridium Throne of the Third Imperium in 1116.	Dulinor Astrin Ilethian: Born in 1066 on Dlan (Ilelish 1021), Archduke Dulinor Astrin Ilethian assassinated Emperor Strephon thus reviving the Right of Assassination as a path to the throne.
Dulinor realized the Imperium would never regain its glory unless Strephon stepped down. in 1115, Dulinor asked Strephon to abdicate, but the emperor refused; the archduke realized that drastic measures were in order.	Dulinor was appointed archduke to revitalize a region whose economy was faltering. While many criticized Strephon's choice, analysists agreed elevating an iconoclast promised to co-opt the man into the system.
On 132-1116, Dulinor killed Strephon Alkhalikoi in personal combat, as required by custom, and ascended the throne as Dulinor I, Emperor of the Third Imperium.	On 132-1116, Dulinor struck, eliminating the Imperial heirs with three pistol shots, then fled to seed Imperium-wide rebellion. His brother, sector admiral of the Ilelish Fleet, formed the nucleus of the rebel navy.
The old regime has acted to impede Dulinor's accession to the Iridium Throne. Strephon's nephew, Lucan, has claimed the throne for himself without right. To enforce his will upon others, this pretender killed his own brother and prevented the Moot from confirming Dulinor's rightful status.	The established succession procedures produced a legitimate heir, and Lucan assumed the throne. His first statement was an order to crush Dulinor. Imperial forces have been mobilized to achieve just that end.
