Personality

Hagan, according to his crew, is kind, generous, over-protective and apt to land in trouble with no idea that it was coming or how to get out of it. Somehow, it all turns out alright!

He is fair, loyal to his family and friends, over-trusting and cautious.

History & Background (Biography)

Parents and Legal Guardians

  • Sunray Dransfield
  • Isillii Peskhiimuuki-Dransfield

Sunray and Isillii are the founders and proprietors of the Dransfield Salvage company, originally of Arleshanu but lately relocated to Gabrael - where it has made something of a mark commercially. They are part of an extended family, many of whom work for the company - directly or indirectly.

Early Years

Hagan's early years were spent on Arleshanu - a planet that has since been abandoned and a community that has been broken up.

It seems that Hagan harboured dreams of following his father into the scrap recycling business, scavenging off the leftovers from the Naval Base and its nearby community. He had the basics of the trade, and a side-business as a locksmith's assistant before he had properly left school. It was his tendency to carouse in Marine bars that diverted him from this easy trajectory.

Imperial Marines

Having impetuously volunteered for the Imperial Marines, Hagan was shipped to Taproban for Imperial Marine Training in 1118 and then on to Boarding Detachment 7715 on the INS Wal Ta Ka Desert. At this time, the Vargr incursions were at their height - allowed by the impetuous withdrawal of the Corridor Fleet to Core Sector the previous year (1117) - and the 61st Fleet was hard pressed to cover everywhere. Hagan was promoted to Lance Corporal and was mainly deployed to undertake commerce protection and inspection work in the Million Subsector.

Hagan married Nyla Taler, an entertainer, in 1119 - just before heading for a patrol off Hammand.

A "Vargr raider" was discovered at Hammand in 1119. The ensuing Battle of Hammand was a spectacular and monumental mistake, but one that was none-the-less fatal for the participants. The Imperial Navy covered the whole thing up by simultaneously awarding Boarding Detachment 7715 a battle honour; Hagan and others medals and pretending the whole thing hadn't happened - certainly not on the scale that actually did. Hagan's "FUBAR" call-sign appeared to be all too true.

Hagan's wife delivered a son in the first days of 1120, and they named him Corbus.

Scout Service

The Imperial Marines were happy to allow Hagan permission to transfer to the IISS and he was deposited at the Nurara Scout Base under the impression that he would be a "Pathfinder". The station commander (Scout Commander Margesi Suvfoto) noticed the arrival of the ex-Marine and made his life a living hell. Nothing was right and nothing could be done about it. Despite the ongoing war with the Dzarrgh Federate and a major shortage of staff, Hagan was drummed out of the service. His one highlight and act of revenge was to organise the sale of a captured Vargr scout to the Arleshanu space museum - who then immediately condemned it as valueless and sold it for scrap to Dransfield Salvage.

Scavenger

Hagan finally joined Dransfield Salvage, a company of doubtful reputation on Arleshanu dealing in condemned prizes and other scrap - reconditioning and repairing and eventually selling the ship (usually in parts) to whoever would buy at the best price they could get. It was during this time that Hagan was involved with the Darklight Wanderer, a Free Trader/Smuggler that occasionally needed parts that it couldn't be seen to obtain. As a result, Hagan became a shareholder in this vessel.

The Abandonment of Arleshanu was a bonanza for the family, and they were awarded a major contract for dismantling the Imperial Navy's base. Hagan, as an ex-Marine and qualified pilot, was drafted into one of the temporary logistics units for the duration.

Regency Marines

For Hagan to be drafted into the unit that was providing ground-to-space lift support for the Abandonment was most useful. He was able to arrange for the Imperial Navy to lift the entire Dransfield Salvage operation to Gabrael to fulfil a contract to keep the Refusers recycling systems operational while those who wanted to leave did so. It was while he was evacuating patients from the Imperial Navy's Base Hospital at Arleshanu that he discovered the secret information that drove him back to Gabrael after his discharge at Uramid.

Traveller

Hagan arrived on Gabrael where he had moved the old "Museum Ship" he had obtained over a decade previously and started reconditioning it for space. Christened the Dog-Tag, Captain Hagan Dransfield emerged, and promptly found himself entangled in the war between Gabrael and the Aegzagangnthoegngvang. As one of a small handful of armed, space-worthy vessels (even if you use the term loosely) that were available to Gabrael his ship was immediately indispensable.

Hagan and Nyla have "adopted" a rescued refugee from Dry, Sambuli Emish, found aboard a crashed Corsair in the outback of Gabrael.
