Namri is a preindustrial water world.
- Its surface is 90% or more covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Regency of Muirimi in the Noriega Subsector of Iphigenaia Sector.
- It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
- It is the homeworld of the Namri.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Namri has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's colder outer H- region.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Namri is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Namri has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Namri has 95-100% of its surface covered by liquid water with only a few islands and archipelagos. Wilderness refueling is possible. Such worlds are Water Worlds or Ocean Worlds.
- The world-ocean is littered with icebergs and pack ice.
Satellites[edit]
Namri retains two small vacuum moons.
- They orbit once every few days.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant aquatic native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Namri is a backwater with a stable economy and some degree of development.
- The oceans are divided into huge regions demarked by ultrasonic "borders", with each region dedicated to resource gathering, agriculture, or manufacturing.
- The resources of the homeworld are being exploited.
It is a member of the Regency of Muirimi.
There is limited activity within the system.
- Commercial traffic is sporadic: ships occasionally visit.
- Commo picks up occasional signals and private chatter. Communications are in Namri languages and Riftian Anglic.
- One or two commercial navigation beacons may be active.
- Vessels are unlikely be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
It is the homeworld of the carnivorous, aquatic Namri.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Namri has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Namri has a population of 90,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
Urbanization[edit]
Multiple large urban centers, located on the seabed in shallow regions, are surrounded by smaller satellite communities.
- Structures consist of huge walled enclosures. Most do not have rooves.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Large regions of the world-ocean remain as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Namri possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
The world extensively uses biotechnology, creating biological parallels to mechanical devices.
- The Namri use various marine organisms native to their cold ocean home.
World Government (G)[edit]
Namri is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 50,000 warriors.
World Law (L)[edit]
Namri has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -2 (very unimportant)
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: 7 (generally available)
- Efficiency: +2 (good)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: A (discordant)
- Acceptance: 5 (very aloof)
- Strangeness: A (incomprehensible)
- Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
World Timeline[edit]
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the system.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
