Mai has a very thin atmosphere and no surface water. The system has a population between one and 10 million sophonts. This world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.  There is a habitat or settlement for criminals or exiles from other worlds here. The world has a climate with temperatures at the upper range of human endurance. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Zeda Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Mai, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. 80% of the world's population is the Minor Human Race Ziadd. During the Long Night this world was named Kiiar Paa.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

Mai is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

This world is an astronomical curiosity (some might even say an anomaly) and extremely unpleasant to boot. It is trapped between its twin stars. Two planetoid belts lie beyond the stars and two small moonless gas giants orbit beyond them. The gravity and EM activity of the stars make travel to the central world difficult, and Mai is rarely visited.

Stellar Data[edit]

Mai has two stars in the star system.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Mai is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Mai has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Mai has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Temperatures on the world are high and there is extreme volcanism. There is one small northern polar lake, the only free-standing water on the surface.

History and Background[edit]

Ziadd2-Osborne-Signal-GK 15-Sept-2019a.png

The northern polar lake is the location of the main colony. Almost all of the population are ethnic Ziadd. Life is brutal and spartan, and adequate water is considered a luxury.

Mai also serves as a Ziadd prison colony, housing category Alpha prisoners in a facility directly under the southern pole.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Mai has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Mai has a population of 4,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics[edit]

Linguistic Topography[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

Ziadd structures tend to be solid and blocky and are usually heavily decorated. Many fly flags and banners declaring allegiance and status.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Mai possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Mai is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

World Law (L)[edit]

Mai has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

  • -639: The Ushran capture Zeda after a long and bloody campaign.
  • -600: The Ushran Empire has conquered most of the former Ziadd worlds. Remaining Ziadd forces, now scattered, begin a campaign of corsair activity to support the ongoing rebellions on the Ziadd planets.
  • Circa -400: The Zeda Alignment corsairs begin to capture whole worlds, the Ushran Navy no longer able to keep them at bay.
  • The Year 0: The Third Imperium is founded.
  • 46: A series of uprisings on Zeda, supported by the corsairs, sufficiently weaken military control of the world.

  • 96: The overwhelming might of the Third Imperium forces the Ziadd to choose another long war or integration. They choose to join the Imperium.
  • 300-420: The First Survey charts the system.
