Magash is a vacuum world, with no atmosphere or hydrosphere. The system has a population over one billion. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Sabine Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Magash, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdoms of a count and the Subsector duke. All three are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel.

Astrography & Planetology[edit]

This world is located on the Sabinar Main.

Stellar Data[edit]

Magash has two stars in the star system.

System Data[edit]

The Magash binary star system was known to ancient Solomani astronomers as Albiero. While possessing no habitable worlds, it has several gas giants, around one of which orbits an airless rock that contains one of the most remarkable discoveries in Charted Space.

Lurent planetoid ships may be found, trading, in the inner system or in the system's Oort clouds, refuelling.

Mainworld Data[edit]

The mainworld orbits at approximately 2 AU from an F8 main sequence star named Rajata and a close K7 companion star named Argyros. Magash has one moon.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Magash is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Magash has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Magash has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Magash's most visible feature as seen from space is the Jade Wash, a vast, rich plain of copper oxide compounds stretching from the northern to the southern hemisphere.

  • Diisanirga Arcology
  • Irahiir Cavern

Mainworld Map[edit]

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Nearly 500 miles under the surface is an enormous layer of hydrated rock, containing more water than found in all of the oceans on Terra, which is close enough to the surface to be "mined" by interested settlers. But this body is actually the result of tectonic migration from an even more vast body of water that surrounds the planetary core, the Twilight Sea. The Sea contains enough water to fill Terra's oceans five or six times over, but what is even more remarkable is that it contains and supports life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Magash was first settled in 298 from Berora.

It hosts two different universities, the University of Iikilama and the University of Zimanum.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Magash, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

» It is the seat of the Duchy of Sabine.

World Starport[edit]

Magash has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Magash has a population of 8,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).

World Technology Level[edit]

Magash possesses a Technology Level of TL–15 or TL-F in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government[edit]

Magash is a balkanised world, with its eight billion citizens living in twelve different arcologies carved into natural caverns under the world’s surface. Although the Duchess of Sabine sits as ruler of the Diisarirga Arcology each of the other arcologies are independent. Magash also controls two other nearby systems: Sui'tang (Deneb 0417) and Seleen (Deneb 0517).

World Military[edit]

The local communal militaries have been tentatively unified since 1140 under a special master appointed by the subsector government. Local troops often wear outlandish and brightly colored clothing to identify themselves to local citizens, thereby forestalling lingering suspicions left over from the cold war days. In many cases local police have taken over many of the military's functions, and take a very high profile themselves in promoting local civic order and duty. Some specialized forces are actually media savvy units staffed by officers with acting abilities and skills whose exploits are splashed across the local media nets to underscore civic unity, public duty and "brotherhood with all sophonts."

World Economy[edit]

Magash Shipbuilding.jpg

Magash is a regional exporter of TL–12 technology. The GSbAG shipyard specializes in small production runs of luxury and custom vessels. The co-located Magash Shipbuilding & Spacedock Company builds limited production runs of more common vessels. Magash also exports advanced organic compounds, spacesuits, life support systems and other vacuum environment service devices, and mercenaries, especially profor (protected forces) troops.

Sabine Transport is a subsector-wide corporation headquartered on Magash.

World Demographics[edit]

The population is strongly mixed, and are friendly to offworlders.

Historical Data[edit]

Surveyors discovered the fact that this world supports life in 115, and a Vilani colony was established here in 133.

Magash was the first world in Sabine Subsector to be colonised by the Third Imperium, in 298.

In 385, Al Morai out of Mora (Spinward Marches 3124) established subsidized merchant service to Magash.

The first subsector capital was established on Magash in 630.

Because of the bounty provided by the Twilight Sea and Hydration Zone, most of the early settlements broke off from each other and formed their own governments. In every case settlers built their cities in large impact craters, building wall-to-wall pressure domes that provided plenty of room for future expansion. Today most of these domes have been replaced by huge structures that resemble giant teardrops burrowing into the ground, with the sharp end being a large tower that houses shuttle or starports and most of the local industry. Drilling into the Hydration Zone brings water, air and organic material that provides most local life support needs.

The world is dominated by the megapolises of Iikilama and Zimanum, which are linked complexes of several habitats. Economic competition between these two, and with other Midway high population worlds in conjunction with neighboring cities, were historically fierce and marked by guerilla actions and industrial espionage. Magash's cities are topped by laser and mass driver turrets originally intended to shoot down frequent meteors and comets, but eventually became deterrent weapons during the long cold wars between these factions.

New Era[edit]

Since the Collapse, however, the loss of the Third Imperium and the threat of Virus has forced the warring factions into a shaky coalition. This was done more out of practical considerations like preserving the world's technological lead in the face of the TL-15 cap imposed by the First Regent than out of any love for each other. But since the Collapse the benefits of linking their economies together has outweighed conflict, and economic specialization has blurred the traditional boundaries between the larger factions. This grudging acceptance and integration has been helped by massive immigration by Frontier refugees, and the fallout of the Ashasi devolution.

New habitats have been constructed to make room for the new additions, and in many cases the elites of various cities have formed joint venture communities like the famous Rainbow Vale, the Regency's high powered genetech center that is currently rolling back the frontiers of genetic engineering and research. Despite some erosion of technological skills and abilities, the world is banging on the TL-16 door, and could easily transform itself overnight. Thanks to the Rainbow Vale and other genetech centers, Magash is a major source of biological products for the rest of the Regency. The world is also a major shipbuilder, though its higher gravity keeps it from taking full advantage of its cheap manufacturing and labor. One transport innovation built since the Collapse are Tractor/Repulsor driven high speed trains that link all of the worlds habitats into a single network and is cheaper than traditional grav and space transit. All of these developments are supported by Ivy Curtain schools like the Universities of Iikilama and Zimanum, which are heavily grounded in sciences and technology.
