Khula is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vland Subsector of Vland Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It was the homeworld of the Khulans, an extinct minor human race.
- This die back world was once settled and developed, but the inhabitants have either died off or left, leaving behind the ruins and remnants of their civilization.
- This world has a colony at Lobode.
- Khula is located on the Vilani Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Khula has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Khula is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Khula has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Khula has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
The shuulamane, a rodent-like creature, is native to Khula. Introduced to Vland and other worlds by early Vilani travellers, it is often assumed by modern people to be a Vland native.
Native Sophont[edit]
Khula is the former homeworld of the Khulans, an extinct minor human race.
- It was a barren die back world by the time of its discovery by the Vilani.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Khula is a Puzzle World and is designated as an Amber Zone. It presents particular risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that are not well understood.
- Visitors are advised to act with caution.
Khula was first visited by Vilani explorers in sub-lightspeed ships, who returned to Vland in -9309.[2]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Khula has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Khula has a population of 50,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The entire population are modern humans: the Khulans have been extinct for millennia.
Urbanization[edit]
- Vilani cities are planned under the assumption that most transport traffic will be communal rather than private. Typically, only high-ranking manager or executive-class citizens will own their own ground cars or air/rafts.
- Vilani buildings are almost always square or rectangular, which means that when combined with a city's radial layout, there are innumerable triangular bits of land left over. This is deliberate; the leftover space is used for parks and other public facilities.
- One of the few outstanding features of Vilani architecture is its emphasis on ease of communication. Vilani buildings are specially designed with group interaction in mind. Meeting rooms form an integral part of every building.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Khula possesses a Technology Level of TL–14 or TL-E in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early meson communicators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, early collectors, and advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-5.
- There are ruins and remains of the Khulan civilization all across the world.
World Government (G)[edit]
Khula has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Law (L)[edit]
Khula has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
- The civil police are the Mashkim.
Imperial High & Landed Nobility[edit]
Khula, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial minor duke.
Trade Data[edit]

World Economy[edit]
- Resources: D (very abundant)

TAS Travelogue[edit]
Khula (B575A77–E) The billions of Vilani who live here are divided along almost tribal lines in several dozen arcologies arrayed around the two largest seas. A significant population of "rurals" also exists, some affiliated with nearby arcologies, and some organized as another independent polity.
The original natives, the Human-related "Khulans", were already extinct when the Vilani arrived. Having never exceeded TL5, their architecture has largely degraded into ruins. One of the best preserved is high in the mountains where the planet's low humidity is even lower, and the Vilani-induced industrial smog has not reached.
