Jaeyela is a nonindustrial, rich, agricultural world with improving living conditions due to a bustling agro-economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy is bustling and an increase in living conditions is expected in the near future.
  • This world toils under the control of a military government with conditions reflecting that situation, including curtailed civil rights and limited freedoms.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Vipach Subsector of Gushemege Sector in the Domain of Vland.
  • This world has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
  • This is the homeworld of the Ael Yael sophont species.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

System Importance (Ix)[edit]

This world has an Importance Extension (Ix): of 1 (Ordinary).

  • (The Importance Extension (Ix) ranks worlds within a region. It governs the locations of capitals and trade routes.)

Mainworld Data[edit]

Jaeyelya is a hot, fairly dry world with light gravity and a dense atmosphere.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Jaeyelya is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Jaeyelya has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

  • The dense atmosphere aids in permitting the natives to fly.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Jaeyelya has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • The planet is slowly drying.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

  • Most Ael Yael live on or around the area of the Glittering Floor.
  • Imperial settlements on this world are restricted to the Lanai island chain in the Central Ocean, and a small part of the adjacent coast. Most Humans on the planet are engaged in mining the Glittering Floor or support for the Starport.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

It has a sparse but complex ecosystem that has never been well studied.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

A victim of corporate exploitation prior to Imperial intervention, Jaeyelya and its natives remain wary of their Human allies.

Vilani explorers first landed on Jaeyelya somewhere around -6,500. Initial surveys found few readily exploitable mineral deposits. The Vilani Bureaux decided that the most economical thing to do with the Ael was to ignore them. Later administrators were reluctant to change the status quo, so Jaeyelya remained largely isolated. A pattern of very limited contact with the wider galaxy changed dramatically with the dawn of the Third Imperium. New surveys of Jaeyelya found huge, high-grade deposits of manganese and copper beneath Hi-yayahu lae, the Glittering Floor, a dry seabed straddling the equator. In 366, McAteer Mining began tunneling operations on the Floor. Over the next 40 years, McAteer used tens of thousands of Ael as slave labor. Thousands perished in the squalid mining camps.

The ever-increasing oppression led to organized unrest, and a revolt in 415. It was brutally put down, but resistance to the Human presence on Jaeyelya continued. Steady escalation in "protective reprisals" caused millions of deaths, amounting to well over 95% of the Ael population, over the next 22 years. The slaughter was stopped in 437 with the termination of McAteer's corporate charter, intervention by Imperial Marines, and prosecution of the subsector duke for complicity in the genocide. Official historians claim the emperor's preoccupation with the Ilelish Revolt (418 to 435) precluded an earlier response to this crisis.

For a time, the very survival of the Ael race was in doubt; the survivors were dispirited, scattered, and unwilling to cooperate with any Humans, and several of their most important prey species had been wiped out, or nearly so, by McAteer's scorched-earth warfare. Gradually, though, the Ael recovered, though their numbers on Jaeyelya built up slowly because so many emigrated.

An Imperial Protectorate administered by the Imperial Interstellar Scout Service has ruled Jaeyelya since the military intervention.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)[edit]

Jaeyelya, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Jaeyelya has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • This is the Hue-lai yal (literally "the Walker Place"), the Scout Service Administration Center as well as the primary starport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Ael Yael WH Keith.jpg

Jaeyelya has a population of 7,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Demographics[edit]

World Languages[edit]

Urbanization[edit]

A hejal, or Ael Yael commune, usually features a central aerie, typically on the face of a cliff. Buildings used for storage or industry will be clustered at the base of the aerie. Large tracts of surrounding land are reserved as pasture for herd animals, and as hunting grounds.

World Government (G)[edit]

Jaeyela Planetary Development Fund.jpg

Jaeyelya is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

Specifically, the Jaeyelya Planetary Development Fund is the only truly planetwide institution, and provides the closest thing the Ael Yael have to a planetary government.

Note that within local communities, which tend to be small, decisions are typically made democratically. All adults participate in the process, and options are deliberated until a general consensus is reached, which may take some time.

World Military[edit]

The Ael Yael maintain a local constabulary which keeps law and order, but peace and security are mostly enforced by garrisoned Imperial military units under the command of the Imperial Protectorate administered by the IISS.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Jaeyelya has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Jaeyelya possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World Economy (Ex)[edit]

The world's economic measurements are: ( 8 5 5 −1 )

The Ael Yael remain strongly resistant to influence by offworld corporate interests. To this day Jaeyelya has almost no industry other than mineral extraction. The Ael accept this as the price of keeping large numbers of Humans off of their world.

Trade Data[edit]

World Culture (Cx)[edit]

The world's cultural characteristics are: [ 4 7 3 4 ]

Ael Yael society is centered around the hejal, or "commune", a group of between 40 and 150 individuals, usually related by extended kinship ties. Multiple hejal will occasionally settle an area together as part of larger communities, but hejal are the largest formally organized units of society.

A few Ael poet-storytellers have had their works published by Imperial companies. However, the Ael Yael insistence that all publishing be done without the involvement of the megacorporations has limited the availability of these works.
