Steel is a barren garden world with no overt population, government, or law level.
- It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.
- This world is valuable property, as a garden world, and will likely soon be populated...
- It is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This is a "Reserve World" with restricted access, either to protect the indigenous lifeforms, to protect available resources, preserve pristine and idyllic real estate, or other reasons.
- Steel is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It is one of the Metal Worlds.
- This world was once known as Igliim.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Steel has a solitary primary star named Daaluusinnagi.
- It is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x4 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Steel orbits within its star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Steel is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Steel has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Steel has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
A basic map of Steel showing the division between land and water.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- A common local life-form is the shell-crab, measuring around 0.75–1.0 meters in length and resembling a large lobster. They seem to have a taste for electrical insulation, and can chew through almost anything given time. There is a growing market for shell-crab meat. [2]
- Korzan's Pseudo-Mammalian Pouncer (known near-universally as Korzan's Critter) is a common native predator.
- The apex land predator is a savage horse-sized quadruped known as the Highland Terror.
- The Great Caski is a long-necked grazer that wanders the wilderness in small family groups.
- Weed-harvesters are quadrupedal, egg-laying grazing animals with a solitary lifestyle.
- The rock-sticker is a lizard-like animal named for its ability to cling to sheer rock faces.
- Kian have been introduced to Steel, as have rabbits.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Steel was originally named Igliim, after the legendary Vilani sword of that name.[3]
It was selected for development and colonised in -105, by a private company from Caladbolg, but a year later the War of the Second Rebellion broke out, and three years later Caladbolg became involved in the conflict. The colony on Igliim found itself abandoned to its own devices.
After struggling for decades, Steel began to develop as contact increased with the other Sword Worlds, and by 256 its government was in a position to begin looking for new territories. In that year, it began a program of exploration and settlement of nearby systems. The other Metal Worlds were surveyed (and given their current names), and small research settlements were established on all of them.
Despite conflicts with other Sword Worlds, Steel managed to get by until 579. At this time a cluster of asteroids was detected on a collision course with the planet. A massive campaign on the other Sword Worlds provided funds for an evacuation, with Sting shouldering the lion's share of the expenses. Most of the evacuees were transported to Caladbolg as the closest practical destination.
Most people still on the planet were killed either in the impacts or in their aftermath, although some survivors were picked up by ships that kept returning for years after the strikes.
The depopulated world, while part of the Sword Worlds Confederation, was left as a reserve.
The Imperium occupied Steel and the other Metal Worlds in the course of the Fifth Frontier War. After the conclusion of the war, Steel was opened to colonization in 1115.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Steel has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Steel is a Barren World with no sophont population. It may still possess lifeforms.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Steel possesses a Tech Level of TL–0.
- The world has no technological base.
World Government (G)[edit]
Steel has no government or ruling authority of any kind.
World Law (L)[edit]
