876-574 is a low-population garden world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
- Both the population and economy of this world are expected to grow in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Five Sisters Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the Raweh Cluster.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
876-574 has a solitary primary star.
- It is an orange main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the star's Habitable Zone.
- It lies within the zone's prime H region.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
876-574 is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
- During the IISS's 5 week survey of the system volcanic activity was observed, though no particularly significant deposits of minerals were noted.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
876-574 has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
876-574 has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- There are seven large subcontinental landmasses covering the planet, each with an area of about 12.5 million km2, as well as numerous archipelagos and islands.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Each subcontinent is heavily vegetated and is home to a wide range of lifeforms, which variously display insectoid, reptillianoid, or mammalianoid characteristics. The seas are home to a huge variety of aquatic species, some of extraordinary size.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The IISS surveyed the system in 1048 as part of the Second Survey. The two week visit to the mainworld found what were described as "human stone age tribes and several other mammalianoids".
The human tribes only appear to be stone age, choosing to wear clothing fashioned from animal skins, decorating themselves with feathers and paints, and utilizing extremely basic implements such as stone tools. They actually have a surprisingly sophisticated degree of technological development, and on occasions when such a thing has been needed, they have constructed sophisticated devices such as steam-driven power plants.
The tribes hunt a large aquatic carnivore, which provides them with a variety of valuable products, using seagoing canoes carved from the trunks of huge trees. The tribes relish the hunting of the creature and celebrate the hunt in stories and in dance. Foragers, usually accompanied by shaven-headed warriors who protect them from dangerous native animals, also gather fruits, roots, and nuts to add to their diets. Volcanic minerals, got from perilous expeditions to the mountainous hearts of the subcontinents, are used to create their hunting weapons.
World Starport (St)[edit]
876-574 has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
876-574 has population of 700 sophonts (hundreds).
- This is a Low Population World and the population would be too low to sustain itself without moderate outside assistance. This may represent a large transient population such as the crew of a fleet of starships, the dwindling remnants of a dying colony, a construction team building a new colony, or an outpost that could evolve into a colony.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Local native language.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
876-574 possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Coal or other simple hydrocarbon fuels and early steam engines.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Bicycles and early steam coaches with advanced roadways.
- Water: Advanced sailing and early steam engine ships.
- Air: The earliest hot air balloons.
World Government (G)[edit]
876-574 has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
There is a chief, chosen by a variety of means, governing each village on the planet.
World Law (L)[edit]
876-574 has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
The population are happy to trade beads for goods. They are shrewd and can't easily be defrauded.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 4 (very scarce)
- Labor: 1 (tens)
- Infrastructure: 0 (non-existent)
- Efficiency: -5 (extremely poor)
The population survive by fishing in the oceans, foraging and hunting, and growing small gardens. What little surplus there is is reserved for times of hardship.
World Culture[edit]
- Heterogenity: 1 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 1 (extremely xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 1 (very typical)
- Symbols: 1 (extremely concrete)
Bone carving is a popular pastime. Most native clothing is heavily adorned with beautifully made bone beads.
Wearing the pelt of a certain tree-dwelling rodent is a symbol of high status.
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- The Year 0: the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- 589-604: First Frontier War.
- 604-622: the Civil War.
- 615-620: Second Frontier War.
- 624: the Express Boat Network is established.
- 979-986: Third Frontier War.
- 995-1065: the Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1082-1084: Fourth Frontier War, also known as the False War.
- 1107-1110: Fifth Frontier War.
Later Historical Eras[edit]
There was no activity in the system during the Fifth Frontier War: after the war, the Imperium annexed the planet.
The IISS has declared a survey mission is to be conducted on the planet, primarily to investigate a slow decrease in the world's population. A Donosev class Survey Ship is reported as being readied at the main subsector scout base at Karin.
