Description
Leading a bureaucratic country of 100 million inhabitants, the Commonwealth of Touchdown is currently forging ahead and being driven by a relatively dynamic series of ministries. This is a reaction to the previous administration which was more pedestrian. This rush and pause cycle is a feature of the whole culture within the Commonwealth of Touchdown.

Touchdown's flag shows the five ships that arrived and formed the initial landing after which the state is named.
Languages
There are two main (official) languages in Touchdown: English and German. Only 10% of the population (mainly in the North) speak German as their first language.
Capital
Touchdown City is the capital city of the Commonwealth of Touchdown and the largest city in the New Earth System.
Other settlements
Touchdown has some 9 cities of over 1,000,000 inhabitants, but only Touchdown City is larger than 10,000,000. Nearly 90,000,000 inhabitants live in small towns scattered throughout the 29 main districts.
History
The first and, at the time, only government on New Earth, the Commonwealth of Touchdown appeared in Year 1. It didn't last as a unitary authority with individual settlers heading outside the town borders and the Matabele breaking away from the main colony in Year 2. The more the governing council tried to organize the colony to the best advantage, the more groups went their own way. The greatest blow to their sense of uniformity was when the Captains got fed up of their meddling in Year 8. It has been stated that the colony on New Earth thrived despite the best efforts of the experts! The reforms of Year 43 saw the entire structure of the Commonwealth redefined with an effective administration finally being established. By that time, the planet was already effectively balkanised.
Touchdown has contributed troops to many missions of the New Earth Council. The greatest disaster was the 151 to 204 Red-Line Occupation - this resulted in the Touchdown Troubles between 180 to 204, the 9-Day War in 203 and ultimately the Kippe Incident in 204.
