Algebaster is an agricultural production world with a shirt-sleeve atmosphere and a balance of available surface water. The system has a population between 1 million and 10 million sophonts. It is a Human dominated Non-Aligned world in the Cronor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world has a colony at Megas.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Stellar Data
Algebaster is a binary star system.
- Both are red main sequence stars.
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x8 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data
The system has no gas giants and all refueling material must come from the world's seas. This has permitted the original colony to remain unmolested for centuries, though it has made the lives of Zhodani merchant crews miserable.
Mainworld Size (S)
Algebaster is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Algebaster has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
- It experiences relatively high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Algebaster has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

This former Imperial colony was tolerated by the Zhodani government because of its strategic location along the Cronor Cleft.

Later Historical Eras
Era: New Era
This hot, heavy-cored world was originally settled by Rommie Autonomous Commonality colonists to act as a supply depot and communications base. After each world was settled, however, the colonists abandoned starfaring, leaving the base to fend for itself. The population rallied around a government of technicians, who painstakingly repaired and rebuilt failing technology. The community became severely stratified under this ruling class, with the bulk of the population working menial labor at their masters behest. 3I scouts recontacted the world in 213, and established a trade agreement that traded new technology for the locals stockpiles of heavy metals. When the Zhodani ejected the Imperials four centuries later, they were obligated to continue this arrangement, as their disorganization prevented absorbing the neutral world into their empire.
Algebaster's economy revolved around its starport, firstly for refueling and later for supporting trade across the Cleft following the Collapse. The Elite Council initiated enough political reforms for some freedoms, though local culture became more egalitarian than free. The Dawn Heralders did significant damage to the world, first during their seizure in NE 36, when they ran the local infrastructure to the ground with incessant use during their military offensives, and lastly in their doomed defense when the Commonwealth invaded Cronor Subsector in NE 39. Rebuilding took a decade, during which time the elite took a leading role in organizing the Non-Zhodani worlds of the subsector in breaking away as a sovereign entity.
The RAC capitol is actually a non-formal affair, as the commonality is very decentralized, and the government legislature only convenes for one-third of the year and leaves most decisions with the local bureaucracy. The legislature, known as the Convention, meets in the world's brand new highport, whereas the bureaucracy and planetary government (these being almost the same thing) conducts its business from offices in the old downport. This dichotomy is evident in the language of Rommies: a political decision from "on high" is a legislative action, whereas one refers to the bureaucrats actions as "locked in the basement".
