Description (Specifications)

The vessel is a fusion-tunneled buffered asteroid: the interior compartments are protected by heavy armor plates and the craft has extensive structural bracing. The design is built around its large missile bay. Knuckle Heads carry a section of marines for boarding actions and inspections. The vessel is a TL-8 design.

1.	Tonnage / Hull	The Knuckle Head class is constructed using a 1,000 Ton fusion-tunneled Buffered Planetoid hull. It is unstreamlined and cannot operate in anything denser than Trace atmospheres without risking catastrophic structural failure. There are four airlocks located around the vessel.
2.	Crew	x28 personnel: x5 command, x3 engineering, x3 gunnery, and x2 service. There are x15 Marines. Staterooms: 14 double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel: Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Maneuver-4 drive and a Power Plant-4, giving performance of 4-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 4. The internal fuel tankage gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/2 fib computer: no backup computer is installed. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment and a standard sensor array. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x10 hardpoints.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for an Knuckle Head class is: x1 100-Ton bay, mounting heavy 50cm warhead missile launchers. The vessel is equipped to handle nuclear ordinance.
7.	Defenses	In addition to the inherent protection offered by its planetoid structure the hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it an armor rating of 9. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	The vessel carries no subcraft.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 40.0 Tons. It is not fitted with fuel scoops or fuel purification equipment.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr678.75 Architects Fee: MCr6.788
11.	Construction Time	120 weeks (28 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
