Zeda is an industrial world with a tainted atmosphere. The system has a population over one billion. This system serves as the capital for the subsector. Government control of this world is by an external military force. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Zeda Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Zeda, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdoms of a count and the Subsector duke. All three are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. This is the homeworld of the Ziadd, a Minor Human Race.

Astrography and Planetology

Zeda is the namesake of the Zeda Subsector, the homeworld of the Ziadd, an important industrial center, and a major tourist attraction.

The world is regarded as an Ancients site because that race transplanted the Ziadd there from prehistoric Terra. No actual Ancients sites have ever been discovered.

Zeda is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

Mainworld Size (S)

Zeda is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

Zeda has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

Zeda has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

Mainworld Topography and Geography

Zeda is a dry and dusty world. The Ziadd have been genetically altered to endure these conditions; a transparent membrane covers the eyes and the nose and ears contain gas-permeable membranes to keep out dust. The epidermis is coarse and hard, and helps to protect against windblown dust.

Native Sophont (NIL): Ziadd

The Ziadd are the only surviving Minor Human Race within the Dagudashaag Sector, the Miyavine having died off several thousand years ago. Ziadd were genetically engineered from Homo Neanderthalensis by the Ancients, around the year -400,000, taken from Terra by the Ancients and transplanted to Zeda.

History & Background (Dossier)

Zeda serves as subsector capital.

The world has a rich cultural heritage and is steeped in history. This can be brought dramatically to life by the many Ziadd who still follow the 'old ways' (the Ziadd hold tradition and heritage very highly, and casual travellers are warned to treat high-ranking individuals with the respect their status warrants). Most cities are dominated by networks of Citadel-fortresses, and most feel more like gigantic living museums than highly advanced industrial centres.

World Starport

Zeda has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Ziadd structures tend to be solid and blocky and are usually heavily decorated. Many fly flags and banners declaring allegiance and status.

  • Dryaez: Also an important producer of vehicles and heavy machinery
  • Gliakl: Noted for arts and crafts
  • Hiaqq: An important producer of manufactured goods
  • Iaq'tsur: Ancient enemy of Reth; profits from tourism, particularly from major events such as the re-enactment of battles or the staging of religious ceremonies
  • Reth, ancient enemy of Iaq'tsur, facing each other across the fertile Ishaar; tourist centre
  • Shoez: Industrial centre
  • Zud: Industrial centre

Zeda possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Zeda has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

The world is technically under Imperial military rule.

  • -2204 to -1776: The Rule of Man administers the worlds of the region.
  • -1776 to 0: The Long Night.
  • -642: War breaks out between the Ziadd and the Ushran Empire.
    • Outmatched by the Ushran navy, the war goes badly for the Ziadd.
  • -639: The Ushran capture Zeda after a long and bloody campaign.
  • -600: The Ushran Empire has conquered most of the former Ziadd worlds. Remaining Ziadd forces, now scattered, begin a campaign of corsair activity to support the ongoing rebellions on the Ziadd planets.
  • Circa -400: The Zeda Alignment corsairs begin to capture whole worlds, the Ushran Navy no longer able to keep them at bay.
  • The Year 0: The Third Imperium is founded.
  • 46: A series of uprisings on Zeda, supported by the corsairs, sufficiently weaken military control of the world.
  • 65: The Ziadd rebellion, supported by the regular troops of the corsair bands, retake the world. For the first time in more than six centuries, the Ziadd homeworld is back under Ziadd control.
  • 96: The overwhelming forces of the Third Imperium force the Ziadd to choose another long war or integration. They choose to join the Imperium.
  • 300-420: The First Survey charts the system.
  • 604 to 622: The Imperial Civil War.
