General Description[edit]
The vessel has a fully streamlined conical structure hull. It is fitted with fuel scoops and fuel purification plant allowing it to perform wilderness ocean refueling. Armed with three independent batteries of missile to track and kill multiple small targets, this approach made it less capable versus capital ships of the line. They carry enough fuel for a jump 2 and hold a jump 1 reserve for tactical retrograde operations in the face of superior enemy forces. The admiralty sought a high offensive power to tonnage ratio. They proved under powered against larger enemy frigates. They used the beam lasers rather than the cheaper pulse lasers They have proved to be excellent raiders against merchant shipping and shore installations. Streamlined and with enough acceleration to visit larger planetary gravity wells.
Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The TC5 Galores class Sloop serves with the Trooles Confederation. Examples of the class can be encountered throughout the coreward parts of Theta Borealis Sector.
TC5 Galores class Sloop was quite different from a civilian or mercantile sloop, which was a general term for a jump capable vessel scaled up from system cutters. Some carry a ketch or a gig while retaining their mobility and modest cargo capacity. During the last war huge numbers of sloops were built to support larger vessels. They are economical in terms of manpower which was important due to the chronic shortfall in trained starmen.
The Navy made extensive use of the sloop, against enemy privateers, slavers, and smugglers. They have served as fleet couriers, carrying secret communications, vital persons and materials, and performing reconnaissance duties for the fleet. In a famous scandal the sub-contractor responsible for the modular passenger quarters fitted into the cargo bay had a serious defect. Several power and life support sub-systems suffered cascade failures resulting some loss of VIP life.
In general, a sloop would be under the command of a master and commander rather than a full captain, although in day-to-day use the commanding officer of any naval vessels would be addressed as "captain". A sloop was generally the equivalent of the corvettes of enemy navies. They had some level of hull protection to lessen internal damage and critical hits.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]
Vessel Peculiarities:
No information yet available.
Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Trooles Confederation are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. TC refers to Trooles Confederation (a designation applied to all Confederation combat units), 5 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and when it is used 'b' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Galores' is an easy to remember class name to identify the specific type of vessel.
- Individual vessels are named by a committee using an authorized list.
