The Venters class Assault Ship is a very light warship.
- It is a military ship and a Assault Ship.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The Venters class Assault Ship (...named after Marines who have been awarded the Starburst for Extreme Heroism) is a 2,000 ton heavy armoured shuttle used to deliver up to four platoons of Imperial Marines from the 4518th Lift Infantry Regiment, an Imperial Marine Cadre that is formed from veteran Imperial Marines on detached duty. (A 4518th's platoon is smaller than a typical Marine Line Regiment platoon, only four g-carriers compared to a Typical Line Marine Platoon's 6) The Venter can carry (...16 G-carriers and 160 Marines) to a hostile world. Lacking jump drives, they are usually carried aboard Battle Tenders and form an integral part of the 154th Battle Rider Squadron.

Basic Ship Characteristics[edit]
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of eight G-Carriers subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. [1]

Each G-Carrier has a crew of two Marines and carries eight Lift Infantry inside (Marines in Grav Belt equipped Battledress). The Marines are usually armed with lasers and FGMP-14s, allowing them to recharge their gear from their G-Carrier's powerplant. Some troop carryingG-carriers are replaced with specialist versions;

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
As the Assault ships are carried by a Battle Tender, they have no need for a jump drive, instead using the Battle Tender to transport them between star systems. This has allowed the design (like a Battle Rider) to focus on speed, protection and firepower, to improve the ship's survivability so that it has a good chance of penetrating hostile planetary defences. The ship is a needle wedge configuration, as this was found to be difficult shape for Deep Meson gun sites to target and allows for a high speed if the ship needs to duck into the atmosphere. The typical approach to a target world is performed at high speed, with Battleriders and fighters from the Tender assisting in the suppression of ground batteries and hostile System Defence Craft. Once in low orbit, the ship launches it's sixteen g-carriers, which then deploy to their target areas. The ship usually stays in low orbit during an mission, ready to retrieve the ground troops if needed and helping to support the deployed forces with orbital fire support from its missiles, fusion and laser batteries. For longer occupations, the ship usually lands, acting as a field base and protecting the landing zone with it's weapons (point defence), meson screen and nuclear damper field.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]
Vessel Peculiarities: It's a gigantic 2,000 ton shuttle that is used to deliver an entire company of Imperial Lift Infantry through hostile planetary defences to the target zone. If you spot one on your scanners, be polite.
Class Naming Practice/s: The vessels are named after decorated Imperial Marines. [3]
