Skkyhrk is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- This is a "Puzzle" world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor.
- It is a member of the Hhkar Sphere in the Hikaru Subsector of Amdukan Sector.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
- This world was once known as Urinir.
- This world has a direct colony at Hrkuka.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the Urinir Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Skkyhrk is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Skkyhrk has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. While a Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- The taint is made up of sulphur compounds, and comprises roughly 10% of the atmosphere; this makes it more suitable for the Hhkar than for Humans or Vargr.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Skkyhrk has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native life is adapted to a sulphur-rich environment.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Skkyhrk is the capital of the Hhkar Sphere. The planet was renamed (or, according to its current population, restored to its original name) after the Hhkar invasion of -222; the planet had been known since the days of the Vilani Imperium as Urinir, a backwater world known only for its pyramid ruins (now known to have been built by the Hhkar before they left the planet 10,000 years ago).
World Starport (St)[edit]
Skkyhrk has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Hhkar Naval Base, under the primary control of the Nhroossrt ssaaahk.
World Population (P)[edit]
Skkyhrk has a population of 10,000,000,000 sophonts (tens of billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population is almost 100% Hhkar.
World Languages[edit]
The dominant language is Hhraki, also known as Hhkarn to humans.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Skkyhrk possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government (G)[edit]
Skkyhrk is governed by a Charismatic Oligarchy, like a charismatic dictatorship in that a larger group has asserted their right to rule. The group will likely have better rules of succession than a single dictator and may last longer, or may transition to a non-charismatic dictatorship.
The Nhroossrt ssaaahk is dominant here.
World Law (L)[edit]
Skkyhrk has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors).
World Culture[edit]
Hhkar society is centered on the ssaaahk, a group of Hhkar with common physical characteristics. Every Hhkar places the needs of his ssaaahk above his own, and obeys without question the orders from the ssaaahk patriarch. Conflict between groups is common, but the interstellar Hhkar government imposes rules and limits on such feuding.
World Economy[edit]
Menderes Corporation owns a quarter of industrial capacity on Skkyhrk, although the vast majority of its employees and local managers are Hhkar.
Major Historical Events Timeline[edit]
These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this world:
- -50,000: For reasons unknown, the Hhkar leave their homeworld using ramscoop-equipped vessels and colonize Skkyhrk (which will be known to Vargr as Urinir) and other nearby planets.
- -10,000: Again for unknown reasons, Hhkar migrate away from Skkyhrk.
- -222: The Hhkar return to the region in a great migration, attacking the Vargr society present on Urinir.
- -219: Vargr emissaries are able to negotiate a complete surrender. The terms include the destruction of "non-productive" members of the Urinir society (the elderly, the disabled, and the unemployed) and a total ban on new births.
- Over the next 500 years, the Hhkar expand their sphere of occupied worlds.
- 377: Commodore David Lindquist of the Julian Protecorate Star Legion almost defeats a Hhkar force at Kargar. The Hhkar are so impressed by Lindquist's tenacity and cleverness that he is given an honorable execution, and the Hhkar withdraw from the system in spite of their victory.
- Early 600s: After centuries of increasingly common peaceful (if wary) interaction, the Hhkar Sphere joins the Julian Protectorate.
