History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Built by the government and Planetary Navy of Darrukesh (world) at the naval orbital shipyards. Fifteen vessels of this class were constructed using local TL–13 resources, materials and labor. They were formed into a colonial BatRon and presented as a gift to the admiralty of the 20th Fleet. There have been great cries of outrage among conservative and established imperial fleet admiralty, over the use of these vessels. As a result, the production run was limited to the prototype and the fourteen vessels currently in service. The local fleet commanders are grateful for these assets, but their resources are limited supporting and servicing these monsters. They were sent without any logistical vessels to maintain their fighting trim. The fleet has resorted to awarding private contracts to deliver critical supplies and spare parts to these monsters, while on station. In desperation, even free traders have been known to get an occasional naval contract especially if a trusted naval veteran might be among the crew. There Switchback heavy fighters maybe replaced by more conventional fleet fighter designs at some undisclosed point in the future. 20th Fleet officers have gone on record that these warships, though outdated, are foundational to the defense of the border and to maintain security against any Solomani aggression. In Service: 15.
Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]
Each vessel within the class is named by the government of the state that produces it. They generally draw on traditional naming protocols and it is not uncommon for a historical class name to be reused.
- Individual vessels within the class are issued specific serial numbers and transponder codes.
- Naming a ship is considered a serious affair and is generally accompanied by a traditional ceremony, usually pouring a local beverage over the bows of the craft. Starfarers tend to be superstitious folk and a ship with a frivolous name is considered "unlucky".
