Surogota is an agricultural world with an ideal environment for producing food from plants, animals, or other lifeforms. The system has a population between 100,000 and 10 million sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Nulinad Subsector of Empty Quarter Sector and in the Domain of Antares. Surogota, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight (the Imperial representative to the world) and the fiefdom of a baron. Both are members of the Imperial Landed Nobility who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Surogota is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Surogota has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Surogota has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water. There will be a number of small seas or one larger body of water. Wilderness refueling is possible.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

There is extensive flora and fauna, much of the latter dangerous to Humans.

Native Sophont (NIL): Surogotan[edit]

This is the homeworld of the Xu'rokotani, a sophont species and minor race. They have also been known as the Pikii (to the First Imperium) and the Surogotan (an Anglicized version of their native name).

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Ancient Ziru Sirka and Rule of Man records uncovered on Gudina (Empty Quarter 0334) led Imperial Scouts to rediscover the "Pikii" in 27 Imperial. The IISS decided to rename their homeworld Surogota -- an Anglicised version of the name the natives themselves used -- and the inhabitants as Surogotans. Fearing that settlers would enslave or destroy the low-tech insectoid species, the IISS advised Emperor Cleon to interdict the world in 30 Imperial. Scout fears were eventually proven to be unfounded: most the fauna of the system is quite dangerous, rendering the world unsuitable for settlement. The interdiction order was finally lifted in 51 Imperial.

Imperial Landed Nobility (N)[edit]

Surogota, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Surogota has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Surogota has a population of 300,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Surogota possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World Government (G)[edit]

Surogota is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Culture[edit]

The large "spiders" of Surogota have an indecipherable belief system. Most of their non-materialistic thought is actually expressed in genetic manipulation techniques, and in specialized, altered wildlife that seem to have a religious, or at least a numinous function. The Vilani of the conformity-demanding First Imperium taught them various rituals that they still sometimes perform before powerful Imperial officials. Watching large eight-legged beings conduct Ancestral Veneration rituals designed to be performed by bipedal Humans is... bizarre.

The best work on Surogotan beliefs is a series of Bwap scientific and sociological studies. Bwap Ritualists love order and see the universe organized much like a "Tree of Life", which seems to map more closely to Surogotan beliefs (grounded in genetic science and biology) than either Vilani reverence for dead Ancestors and repeated Tradition, or Solomani reverence for a transcendent God-King and a text of Divine Laws. Bwap surgeons have been known to discuss their Wapawab philosophy (or godless religion) with the Surogotans on Charity (Empty Quarter 0830) for hours at a time. The Surogotans can't seem to discuss their beliefs without referencing genetic structures, and nobody can figure out what these structures are supposed to represent. If the tightly-structured Bwap mind cannot change its foundational presuppositions, the Surogotans' vision of the spiritual is essentially non-communicable to outsiders. There is no Rosetta Stone, no bridge of understanding that can link the Surogotan mind and the Human (or Vargr, or Droyne, etc.) mind on this issue.
