Mjolnir has both an unbreathable thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water, making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.
- Mjolnir is a member of the Spinward Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mjolnir is a binary star system.
- The primary is a blue-white main sequence named Oliver.
- The secondary is a yellow main sequence named Closamont
Mjolnir's system has two stars, the primary Oliver and its companion, Closamont. Mjolnir has vast dust seas, and its surface has been repeatedly pounded by meteorites.
Mjolnir orbits a much larger rocky body named Niflheim. Niflhiem is a massive world shrouded in clouds. Automatic probes and most manned expeditions all fail to return from voyages into the atmosphere so little is known about the world.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The planet's major resource is its vast oil pools, and mining of these pools is Mjolnir's primary industry. A devastating earthquake on 126-1044 destroyed Mjolnir's capital, Midhvolf, and reduced the planet's population by 75%. Midhvolf has not been rebuilt, and the new capital has been established at Uttonat Omrade. Mjolnir's starport is Armundshaven, which is also the world's commercial center.
Mjolnir was originally named Haulteclaire, and has been largely overlooked and under-populated throughout the history of the Sword Worlds.
World Starport[edit]
Mjolnir has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The Armundshaven downport is mainly underground, cut into the rock surrounding an extinct volcano. This represents one of the most stable areas of the planetary crust, allowing a modest underground city to grow up around the new port.
Trivia[edit]
Hauteclere (or Halteclere, Hauteclaire) means "high [and] neat", is the sword wielded by Olivier de Vienne a fictional knight in the Matter of France chansons de geste, especially the French epic The Song of Roland.
Mjölnir is the hammer of the god Thor in Norse mythology, used both as a devastating weapon and as a divine instrument to provide blessings.
