History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Commonality of Kedzudh was founded in 1044 by a group of worlds tired of raids by the infamous corsair band, Kforuzeng. This alliance was successful, and between 1078 and 1100 Kforuzeng refrained from raiding the Commonality. This withdrawal of forces allowed the Kforuzeng and Kedzudh to sign an alliance in 1100.

In the aftermath of the Fifth Frontier War, with Kforuzeng losing control of its splinter groups, Kedzudh nullified the treaty. But the lack of threats to Kedzudh began to splinter the commonality as well, and several worlds left. The release of the Oekhsos Tirades, however, slowed the splintering.

Later Eras[edit]

With the start of the Rebellion, Kedzudh reformed their alliance with the rebounding Kforuzeng and invaded the Spinward Marches. Many of the worlds of Kedzudh felt that the Commonality should have worked harder to free Vargr-dominated worlds from the Imperium. Kedzudh, or some of the agencies in the member worlds, had been planning for years, attempting to raise anti-Imperial sentiment on these planets. The chaos in the Domain of Deneb provided a perfect opportunity. With Kedzudh providing the funding and vargrpower and Kforuzeng providing the tactical leadership, they captured several Imperial-controlled worlds.

After the Domain of Deneb managed to negotiate a treaty with the invading Aslan, the Imperial fleet turned to the Kedzudh/Kforuzeng alliance and drove them from the Spinward Marches, badly damaging the Kedzudh fleet.

The arrival of the Virus changed the outcome of this conflict. Kedzudh was faced with the choice of aligning themselves with the Regency and becoming part of the Quarantine or facing complete destruction from both forces. Choosing the former, Kedzudh came to form a coreward border to the Quarantine with the assistance of the RQS.

Interstellar Relations[edit]

The Commonality government has limited powers of taxation; government institutions include a small navy/police force -- the Kedzudh Patrol -- and a university. Individual worlds conduct their own interior and exterior relations.

Economic Assets[edit]

Since the Commonality has generally good relations with most neighboring states, a number of Vargr merchant combines have arranged to use the polity as a "flag of convenience", paying a small annual fee for the privilege.

Any illegal or stolen goods found by the polity's navy are confiscated and used to help finance the fleet. Merchants who want their goods back are permitted to appeal within one week of the goods being impounded. Nearly a third of the navy's funding comes from these seizures and many citizens suspect the navy of seizing innocent vessels to help fill the coffers.

Naval Forces[edit]

Each of the member worlds field their own system defense squadrons.

Built at Ughz, the only class-A Starport in the polity, a single example of the Cavern of Fangs Class Escort Carrier patrols the realm. The tiny carrier took three years to build, and required maximum effort from the shipyards. It can carry a symbolic squadron of fighters, a pair of gigs and a small platoon of 2 dton air rafts. Member worlds rotate duty aboard the craft. It does possess jump-5 range to allow it to get to trouble spots quickly.

Because its budget tends to be slashed whenever it gets too successful, the Kedzudh Patrol often operates with second-hand ships purchased from larger states, such as decades-old vessels acquired from the Thoengling Empire or the nearby Aramis and Regina colonial navies.

Capitals: 1105[edit]

The capitals of this polity are located in the following locations:

Since the coalescing member worlds initially couldn't agree on the location of a capital, it was placed at Kedzudh, a sparsely populated planetoid "in the middle". This also had the benefit of reducing inter-world tensions since conflicting claims of ownership had been a bone of contention between the member systems. In time, the prestige earned by Ughz for hosting the polity's only A-class starport became such that many charts instead treat that world as the capital.
