Cleft Subsector is Subsector B of Harea Sector.

  • It lies within Charted Space.
  • It is also known as Aokhatea Subsector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Cleft Subsector is dominated by a mini-rift called the Cleft Rift. At its spinward-rimward end is a cluster of bright stars called the Cleft Group, and streaming away from those is a vast cloud of dust and gas, called the Separe Cloud, that measures many parsecs in length.

  • The Aslan name is found on star charts produced within the Hierate.
  • The resources of the subsector are being exploited.
  • There is regular trade and commerce among its worlds.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes: 1105[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data has been determined regarding Cleft Subsector:

  • The subsector is a low stellar density region.
  • The brightest star is the red giant primary of the Mathan system.
  • It is dominated by the Separe Cloud, a vast but insubstantial cloud of gas and dust.
  • No trade routes are noted as crossing the region.

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Cleft Subsector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the subsector and far beyond.

Clusters & Traces[edit]

Rift Regions[edit]

One rift area lies within the subsector: the Cleft Rift.

  • It occupies the majority of the center of the subsector.

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.

The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.

Borealis Group[edit]

The Borealis Group can be seen as a bright, dense, noticeable grouping of stars in the skies to coreward-trailing.

Comprehensive Second Survey data for all worlds lying within Cleft Subsector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
  • Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.

AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:

Subsector Summary: 1105[edit]

Note that this section is awaiting an AAB Interal Records update.

Cleft, subsector B of Harea contains 12 worlds with an estimated population of 145 million, a per capita income of Cr2,234, and a total economy is BCr324. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 12 starports (0 Class A, 2 Class B, 7 Class C, 3 Class D) employing 30 people. Driving this interstellar trade are three Agricultural (Ag) worlds, three Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, two Pre-Industrial (Pi) worlds, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds. The governments in Cleft maintain two Naval bases, two Military bases, and one Scout base. The average technology level is 7 (with most between 5 and 9). The highest technology level is 11 at Hfuheaas (Harea 1506).

Cleft, subsector B of Harea contains 20 stars and 112 identified planets; five monostellar systems, six binary systems, one trinary system, and no systems with four or more stars. 10 of the 12 systems (83%) have native gas giants. There are four Asteroid (As) belts, one Desert (De) world, no Garden (Ga) worlds, one Ice-capped (Ic) world, two Poor (Po) worlds, five Vacuum (Va) worlds, and no Water (Wa) or Ocean (Oc) worlds.

Cleft has an estimated population of 145 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, six Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, four Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population worlds are Luco (Harea 1009) and Sieafao (Harea 1602). The population consists of 4 sophont groups.

Non-Aligned, Human-dominated[edit]

There are nine Non-Aligned Human-dominated worlds in Cleft with an estimated population of 115 million.

Aslan Hierate[edit]

The Aslan Hierate has jurisdiction over three worlds with an estimated population of 30 million, a per capita income of Cr1,066, and a total economy is BCr32. These worlds originate an interstellar trade of BCr0 through 3 starports (0 Class A, 0 Class B, 2 Class C, 1 Class D) employing 5 people. Driving this interstellar trade are one Agricultural (Ag) world, no Non-Agricultural (Na) worlds, no Pre-Agricultural (Pa) worlds, one Pre-Industrial (Pi) world, no Rich (Ri) worlds, and no Industrial (In) worlds.

The Aslan Hierate has an estimated population of 30 million distributed across no High population (Hi) worlds, no Moderate population (Ph) worlds, no Non-industrial (Ni) worlds, two Low population (Lo) worlds, and no Barren (Ba) worlds. The highest population world is Sieafao (Harea 1602). The population consists of 2 sophont groups.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Cleft Subsector is a remote, lightly settled backwater.

The coreward-trailing part of the subsector has been settled by Ihatei Aslan, moving to spinward along the edge of the Great Rift in search of new territories.

  • Settlement has been sporadic, largely occurring between the year 1000 and the 1060s.
  • The region has no official internal organization or governance and is not considered to be a distinct polity.
  • Almost all of the settled worlds are independent and non-aligned, and through necessity are largely self-sufficient.
