Background[edit]
The Uurugaan was originally laid down in 1084 as a replacement for a Tukera Lines security vessel (i.e. Vemene Inc.) lost in the Fourth Frontier War. Due to yard delays, the vessel didn’t start operation until 1088. The ship is 25% larger than the vessel it was designed to resemble externally. This, combined with a TL–15 build, allowed it to be considerably more effective than the ships it resembled and caused a fatal underestimation of its capabilities on more than one occasion.
It undertook special assignments and tactically complex operations for senior managers, and was (briefly) used for training crews until a gambling ring was found aboard. After this, the ship was held in disgrace and forced to undertake border escort duties until its unfortunate loss.
The ship was captured from the Vemene by the Zhodani at the start of the Fifth Frontier War (1107) as a result of its finding an unexpected Consular Navy Cruiser squadron at Efate on arrival from supposedly routine a jump. The vessel was bought into the Consular Navy, but the unusual specifications meant that it was hard to maintain.
Although the Uurugaan is a converted, Pre-Fifth Frontier War Patrol Cruiser, It is, now, officially a yacht under charter to the Baronry of Dinomn. In Late 1119 it was paid off by the Dinomn Naval Service, and refitted in Dinomn’s yards by the Baronry, as a yacht. From 1112 to 1119 it was operated by the Dinomn Naval Service under which control it ran escort for ships heading into the Vargr Extents, Arden and the Border Worlds from Regina. It gained a reputation for actions above and beyond the scope of its orders on dangerous missions. The vessel was acquired by Dinomn from the Imperial Navy in 1112 after they, in turn, acquired it in an exchange for an equivalent vessel of Zhodani manufacture captured by them during the Fifth Frontier War.
n.b. The Uurugaan was superseded in the Dinomn Naval Service by a 400 dTon SDB in 1120. The previous Pilot, Assistant Engineer, Master at Arms, Gunner and Medic all transferred to this new vessel, mostly with promotions and pay increases. One Gunner has sought a new (less exciting) role elsewhere.
Description[edit]
Name[edit]
The name Uurugaan (Vilani:Uurugaan) means "Safety".
Registration[edit]
Initial registration was at Lewis to the Vemene in 1088.
It was captured and condemned as a prize by the Zhodani Consulate in 1107 and commissioned into the Zhodani Consular Navy as an auxiliary that year. It was transferred to the Imperial Navy in 1111 - but was never commissioned as an Imperial Navy vessel.
The Imperial Navy sold the vessel in 1112 to the newly formed Dinomn Naval Service where it was commissioned immediately.
In 1119 the ship was officially laid up and sold to the Baronry of Dinomn who registered it as an armed yacht at Dinomn on 001-1120.
