Karelian is a pre-agricultural, moderate population rich garden world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- Garden worlds are known for their near-ideal utopian environments conducive to most sophonts, plants, animals, and other forms of life.
- It is a pre-agricultural world with an environment suitable for large scale agricultural and livestock industries that have not yet been widely developed.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.

- It is a member of the Trelyn Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Karelian has a solitary primary star.
- It is a yellow main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
- x5 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Karelian is a Meso World between 12,000km and 13,500km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.8G and 1.1G. The horizon will appear about 5.1km away. Vessels with 1G of thrust should check with local starport authorities before attempting to land using emergency power.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Karelian has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Karelian has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Satellites[edit]
Karelian retains two small moons.
- They are named Ladoga and Onega
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Colonised twice in its history, Karelian's second settlement grew to control four other star systems before it accepted membership in the Trelyn Domain. Karelian remains a leading Trelyn world, a centre for trade and home to both naval and scout bases on the Domain's spinward border.
Negotiations with the Pan-Melesien Company at Coos resulted in Karelian joining the Trelyn Domain in 972, keeping control of its colonies at Weslaco, Surtun, and Yalgoo, while granting independence to Tithira.
To comply with the terms of its Imperial charter, the Allarton Corporation, the Imperial corporation underpinning the Trelyn Domain, is limited to operations exclusively within the Trelyn Subsector of Vanguard Reaches Sector. Allarton officials and representatives may occasionally conduct business on other worlds of the Domain.
- Corporate operations in other areas of the Vanguard Reaches are conducted under the wholly owned Pan-Melesien Company.
- Corporate operations in the Far Frontiers Sector are conducted under the wholly owned Artesian Company, based at Yster.
Both subsidiary companies may be active on worlds far beyond their official operating areas.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Karelian has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- The world is host to a Trelyn Exploration Base.
- The world is host to a Trelyn Naval Base.
World Population (P)[edit]
Karelian has a population of 200,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
Although 90% of the population is Human, Karelian is one of the most cosmopolitan societies in the Vanguard Reaches.
- Its colonists came from many worlds of the Third Imperium and included more than a dozen minor races, from Bwap to Virushi.
- There are also Aslan granted land in return for past military aid.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Karelian possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Karelian is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
World Law (L)[edit]
Karelian has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
