Tyrfing system has a population between 10 and 100 million sophonts. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- Tyrfing is a member of the Spinward Main.
- It is part of the Gram Arm.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Tyrfing has a solitary primary star.
- It is a red main sequence named Angantyr.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x4 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Tyrfing is tidally locked to its primary, Angantyr.
- The star is always high in the sky on the bright face, it hangs on horizon in the twilight zone, while the cold dark face is in permanent darkness.
- The world experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the star to move in the sky.
It orbits within its star's habitable zone.
- It receives moderate levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Tyrfing is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Tyrfing has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Tyrfing has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
A basic map of Tyrfing. The world's hot face, which permanently faces the star, is depicted as a yellow circle with a red cross at its center. The cold face, which permanently faces away from the star, is depicted as a pale icecap with a blue cross at its center. The twilight zone is shown as a medium blue strip (green where it crosses land) running vertically around the world.
Tyrfing's capital city, Munarvag, is located on the western edge of Dagmark, the largest continent.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
A temperate world in the Sword Worlds Subsector of the Spinward Marches. Prior to the Fifth Frontier War, Tyrfing was a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation, but in the aftermath of the war Tyrfing became part of the Imperial Client state known as the Border Worlds Confederation. As a member of the Border Worlds, Tyrfing is an important conduit for trade with the Sword Worlds Confederation. A slapdash city, Brakigastad, has grown up around Tyrfing's starport.
World Starport[edit]
Tyrfing's highport is modest, capable of handling a large volume of traffic but not impressive to look at. Its design is unusual, though, with a central hub area having only shuttle docks, and several specialist ports handling different types of traffic.
World Culture[edit]
Extremely conservative, Tyrfings often practice a focused form of Aesirism that concentrates on Freya as the god of fertility and crops.
World Languages[edit]
- Sagamaal: The common tongue of the Sword Worlds Confederation. Its name references the intent that it evoke the language of ancient sagas of northern Terra -- or at least an idealised understanding of those cultures.
Trivia[edit]
Tyrfing was a magic sword in Norse mythology. The dwarves made the sword, and it shone and gleamed like fire. They cursed it so that it would kill a man every time it was drawn and would be the cause of three great evils.
