Omadarondu is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Mizar Subsector of Zarushagar Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
  • It lies within the Boswach Spur region of the Liasdi Main.
  • It is considered to be part of Darmine Space.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

Omadarondu, according to official star charts, has a solitary primary star.

  • It is a turbulent red giant named Diamada.
    • A companion pulsar named Beacon orbits inside the diameter of Diamada.

Beacon
The system's primary, Diamada, is orbited by a tiny, rapidly rotating neutron star (a pulsar) named Beacon. It has a diameter of around 20 km, a mass in excess of 1 Sol, and an intensely strong magnetic field, powerful enough to tear the iron out of blood cells.

The tiny object orbits within the nebulous outer layers of Diamada, its gigantic primary star, massively disrupting the internal structure of the star and the outflow of material from its core. The course of its orbit can be tracked with the naked eye by the distortion it causes in Diamada, which displays a pronounced superheated lobe around its companion. The entire surface of Diamada is unstable, barely maintaining a rounded shape, and constantly throws off huge flares.

Every 22 seconds, Beacon gives off a brilliant pulse of energy visible across the EM spectrum and detectable across the whole of Charted Space. This pulse is related to the pulsar's magnetosphere expelling material it has gathered from Diamanta. The optical wavelength flash it generates is clearly visible through the outer layers of the huge primary star.

Beacon is so "accurate" that it, along with several other (significantly more distant) pulsars, is used by astrogators throughout known space as a navigational aid (hence the name).

Stability[edit]

The two stars have been a source of fascination to academics and travellers for centuries. Speculation is rife about how long the intensely unstable stellar pairing can continue to exist before they catastrophically implode or explosively destruct, with potentially devastating consequences for systems many parsecs away.

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Omadarondu is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Omadarondu has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. This atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds, which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Omadarondu has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

Omadarondu is a member of the Boswach Spur region of the Liasdi Main, an important trade route crossing between Ilelish Sector and Zarushagar Sector.

The world was a part of Darmine Space, a region that survived both the collapse of the Rule of Man and the Long Night largely due to the efforts of the Darmine, who under the aegis of the Darmine Corporate continued to conduct trade and commerce, maintained a degree of law and order, and helped defend against threats. It was not a state, rather a broad area in which the Darmine and others were active: the populations of most of its worlds were of Vilani or Terran descent, with few native Darmine ever being present. Despite this, it is regarded as a Darmine "Golden Age" and most worlds are proud of their association with it. The Darmine Space region was absorbed by the expanding Third Imperium following the Ilelish Pacification Campaign.

The interaction between the system's huge primary star and its pulsar companion causes severe interference, strange tones and noises, and extremely heavy static on commo and sensors.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Omadarondu has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Omadarondu has a population of 60,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The most commonly heard languages are:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Omadarondu possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government (G)[edit]

Omadarondu is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Omadarondu has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Omadarondu, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

  • Importance: 1 (ordinary)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: A (abundant)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
