A secret, highly detailed listing of the worlds and systems lying within Hirada Sector exists.
- The expanded Hirada Sector data is an annex to the Stars of the Rim.
- It details a part of the Empty Stars.
- It is restricted data held by the University of Selasia.
- It is not generally available to the public.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Locked up securely in the archives of the University of Selasia is a secret annex to Stars of the Rim that contains substantially more astrographic data about Hirada Sector than is generally available to the public.
Naming Protocols[edit]
All of the systems within Hirada Sector have been named (mostly by automated naming processes, though there are suggestions that Spinward Survey research students and others may have tinkered with the namimg protocols in the past). Occasionally names come into or fall out of favor and are changed. Stars and other significant astrographic features may be named for famous individuals - this is considered to be a great honor.
Detection Methods[edit]
Centuries of continuous observation, the use of sophisticated and extremely sensitive instruments and sensors, the ability to take measurements and readings from a wide range of vastly separated observation points, and state of the art data processing have allowed extensive, reliable astrophysical data to be gathered.
A variety of methods are used to survey distant systems and obtain accurate UWP data. The most commonly used are:
- Radial Velocity: a star with a planetary system will move in complex patterns in response to the gravitational influence of its family of orbiting worlds - this is also known as doppler spectroscopy. The technique allows planetary masses, diameters and orbits to be plotted and calculated with a high degree of precision. The occurrence of planetoid belts and empty orbits can also be determined.
- Transit Photometry: the apparent luminosity of a star will dip when an orbiting planet passes between it and the observer. This yields details regarding the size of orbiting worlds. Analysis of the energy spectrum also yields data about the atmosphere and the hydrosphere of the worlds.
- Reflection/Emission Modulations: the energy emanating from a distant planetary body can be accurately measured and analyzed. It gives data about physical conditions on the planet, providing detailed insight into the atmosphere and the hydrosphere of the observed world.
Physical Data[edit]
The stars and worlds that make up the systems within the Sector have only been remotely surveyed. However, their basic physical properties have been repeatedly assessed by multiple independent sources and the vast majority of these organizations confirm one another's findings. Although the UWP can never be stated with absolute certainty until the system has been physically visited, the listed UWP values are considered reliable.
- Based on the observations and findings mainworlds have been nominated for each system.
- When additional details are required, star systems are described using the Fringian Variant System Description.
Social Data[edit]
Starport and Social Data for the many worlds of Hirada Sector is not available.
- Worlds are assumed to have a Class X Starport,
- Population and Population Multiplier are assumed to be 0.
- Government Type and Law Level are assumed to be 0.
- Tech Level is assumed to be 0.
These worlds are assumed to have the trade code Ba (Barren world).
Subsector Names[edit]
Although there are many exceptions, tradition within the Distant Fringe holds that a subsector is named for the system within its borders that contains the most luminous star. Named subsectors that do not contain stars often have prosaic or wistful titles, which may be associated with local astrographic features, space-time anomalys, or even legends and stories.
All of the subsectors within Hirada Sector have been named.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The expanded data for Hirada Sector is held by the University of Selasia - the information is shared with the University of Tal Varisa in return for reciprocal privileged data, and is also shared with the governments of some polities. It is not generally available to the public.
- This restricted access policy is in place primarily through fear of casual Travellers moving freely through open territories and encountering either the Vilani or Voyagers, and thus alerting these mortal foes to the existence of the Distant Fringe.
- Governments and organizations that have access to the data retain it for privileged use, giving them the lead on potential opportunities such as untapped resources or lucrative first contact situations with previously uncontacted sophonts. Holding such data also affords a huge number of tactical and strategic advantages.
The problems encountered in obtaining accurate astrographic data and the immense difficulties presented by travelling within wilderness systems help to discourage all but the most determined individuals.
Properly organized and supported expeditions, funded by universities, companies or wealthy organizations, may be launched into these distant regions. Aside from resource exploration, there are many other potential draws.
- There may possibly be lost human settlements dating from hundreds or even thousands of years ago. These may be descended from pioneers drawn to a new frontier, refugees fleeing hardship or war, isolationists seeking solitude, or long forgotten private enterprises. The sophistication, outlook and attitudes of such societies, if they exist, is unknown. Contacting such groups may be hazardous and could have unforseen long term consequences if not handled correctly.
- There may be remains dating to the time of the Dissident Fleet and the Cripple Fleet. Artifacts from this period provide invaluable cultural and historical insight, especially within their original context, but are also worth a fortune among collectors.
- Rumors persist of far more ancient civilizations and entities, possessing fantastical levels of technology and occupying realms encompassing remote and isolated systems. Tales are also told of starfaring non-human sophonts, though no reliable evidence of these is known to exist.
Alignment Codes[edit]
All of the systems within the sector have the alignment code Nx (Non-aligned, Unexplored).
Amber Zone Systems[edit]
Systems lying within astrographic features, located close to anomalies, or displaying other unusual features are denoted as Amber Zones and should be considered potentially dangerous.
Astrographic Features[edit]
The Tashkalak Signal[edit]
Officially designated RSS Hi1822. An anomalous signal originating from the trinary Tashkalak system, located in Hex Number 1822 and notable for containing a garden world. The signal is occasional, unmodulated, and in the 2–2.5 GHz range.
- The system is designated an Amber Zone.
