Piastabr is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Bilahew Subsector of Fulani Sector.
- Vacuum worlds have no climate, but experience extreme differences in temperature between direct starlight and shade.
- It is a member of the Fulani Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Piastabr has a solitary primary star.
- It is a white main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x6 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 gas giants.
Mainworld Data[edit]
The mainworld orbits within the outer system.
- It receives very low levels of stellar energy.
- The world orbits beyond the star's Jump Shadow.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Piastabr is a Small World between 900km and 2,400km in diameter. The world has very low gravity between 0.05G and 0.09G. The horizon will appear about 2km away.
- Tidal stresses generated by the world's close moon cause frequent seismic and geological activity.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Piastabr has a pressure of less than 0.001 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- Vacuum worlds have no climate, but experience extreme differences in temperature between direct starlight and shade.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Piastabr has no free-standing water or ice on the surface. Wilderness refueling isn't possible on this world. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are classified Desert World or a Hell World depending on their atmosphere.
- The surface of the world is composed of a crust of ice many kilometers thick.
- The whole of the surface is cratered and covered in thick regolith and dust of meteoric origin, leaving none of the icy outer shell exposed.
- Below the outer icy shell is a world-ocean of liquid water.
Satellites:[edit]
Piastabr retains a relatively large, fairly close vacuum moon.
- The two worlds orbit a barycenter once every few days.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
- Verified updated charts are constantly sought.
- Detailed survey data commands premium prices.

Native Lifeforms[edit]
Extensive sub-ice native life occupying a variety of ecological niches.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Piastabr is home to communities of ice-fishers, who harvest the worlds sub-ice ocean life.
- The vast hidden world-ocean is accessed via gigantic capped holes bored through the icy crust.
- Only certain regions of the surface are suitable for boring.
- The resources of the system are being exploited.
A number of businesses, organizations, and private interests are active within the system.
- Commercial traffic is relatively infrequent: ships only occasionally visit.
- Commo is filled with signals and private chatter. Communications are in Riftian Anglic.
- A few commercial navigation beacons may be active.
- A vessel or two may be operating among the other worlds and moons that make up the system.
Note that social data, though only 40 years old, may be out of date.
- Verified updated data is constantly sought.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Piastabr has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Demographics (P)[edit]
Piastabr has a population of 60,000.
Urbanization[edit]
A few small urban areas each surrounded by satellite communities.
- Inhabited areas are dotted across the world.
- Settlements surround gigantic capped boreholes that penetrate through the icy crust.
- Structures and facilities are sealed against local environmental conditions.
- Most of the surface of the world remains as wilderness.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Piastabr possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Piastabr has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
- Nation-states are based around drilling locations.
World Military[edit]
Approximately 300 personnel.
- Each nation-state maintains a small defense force.
World Law (L)[edit]
Piastabr has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Economy[edit]
- Resources: 8 (moderate)
- Labor: 3 (thousands)
- Infrastructure: 3 (very limited)
- Efficiency: -4 (very poor)
Trade Data[edit]
- Importance: -3 (very unimportant)
World Culture[edit]
- Homogeneity: 2 (monolithic)
- Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
- Strangeness: 4 (somewhat distinct)
- Symbols: F (extremely abstract)
World Timeline[edit]

- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published.
