Ofo-Nebus is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.
- Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Khouth Subsector of Corridor Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- During the Long Night this world was named Daadir.
- About 90% of the population is composed of baseline humans and other non-human sophonts.
- About 10% of the population is composed of Vargr.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Ofo-Nebus is a binary star system.
- Both are red main sequence stars.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Ofo-Nebus is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Ofo-Nebus has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Ofo-Nebus has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Officially annexed to the Imperium as part of the County of Khouth in 5, there was never much of an Imperial presence on the planet until Humans settled later.
Ofo-Nebus has two names because it was once two communities: an older Vargr community that has died out, and a younger human community that came here after the Vargr Campaigns were concluded. Unlike Serk (Corridor 0304), little of material worth existed on Ofo-Nebus for the two groups to fight over, and the world remained mostly a backwater. In fact the local Vargr community died out in the Rim War period, though the human community has preserved their houses and cemeteries. Indeed, the world looks and feels like a Vargr world more than it does an Imperial one, and some aspects of Vargr culture have rubbed off on the local humans in rather shocking ways.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Ofo-Nebus has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Imperial Naval Base.
World Timeline[edit]
Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:
- ca -250,000: The Ancients were active within the region, transplanting the Vargr onto Lair.
- -9235: The Vilani discover jump technology. A few explorers and settlers begin to pioneer the region.
- -4045 to -2204: The Ziru Sirka claims a few rimward worlds and establishes a firm border. The Windhorn Rift and the absence of any significant Mains discourages large-scale Vilani expansion into the region.
- -3810: The Vargr discover jump technology and begin an era of expansion.
- -2400s: Vargr raiding into human-dominated areas significantly increases. This becomes known as the Vargr Pillaging.
- ca -1700: Vargr rimward expansion gradually ceases: the border between human and Vargr space stabilizes.
- -1776 to 0: The Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- The Year 0: To rimward-trailing, the Third Imperium is founded.
- circa 26: The Empire of Varroerth is founded.
- early 100s: The Contract of Taarskoerzn is founded.
- 300-420: The Imperial First Survey charts the system.
- early 400s: The Irrgh Manifest is founded: it absorbs the Contract of Taarskoerzn.
- mid 500s: The Knokseng Confederation is founded.
- 869: The Glory of Taarskoerzn is founded. It splits the Irrgh Manifest.
- 995-1065: The Imperial Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: The Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1080s: The Knokseng Confederation is dissolved.
- 1090: The Dzarrgh Federate is formed.
History-Era: Rebellion[edit]
The Dzarrgh Federate took the world in 1117, but did not accord it much value. The local populace was heavily into smuggling even before the Civil War, and local kingpins paid off corrupt Federate officials to look the other way while they ran the blockade between the Federate and the Domain of Deneb. This trade continued throughout the entire Civil War period, and Denebian intelligence services used it to infiltrate agents throughout Corridor, though it was noted that the people of Ofo-Nebus didn't seem to give a tinkers' damn about anything other than themselves.
History-Era: New Era[edit]
The coming of Virus little changed these attitudes, and the world remains a sore spot, as Pack smugglers used the modest starport to stash contraband before attempting to move it past the Quarantine. This practice has partially ended in the face of the demise of Pack groups in neighboring Millions at the hands of the Rose Brotherhood, and the Souk Free Trader Collective has taken over the smugglers quarter of the starport since.
