Kozol is a nonindustrial fluid world.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography consisting of heavily contaminated water or a substance such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquid.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Star Bridge Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]

Notes[edit]
The two stars of the Kozol system have an average separation of 410 AU and orbit a barycenter that lies between them.
- They have an orbital period around one another of approximately 7,500 standard years.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld, orbiting the primary star.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds. Four orbit the primary star, three orbit the secondary star.
- x3 planetoid belts. One orbits the primary star, two orbit the secondary star.
- x4 gas giants. Three orbit the primary star, one orbits the secondary star.
Planetoids of all sizes follow unstable paths through both systems.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Kozol orbits towards the outer edge of its star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Kozol is a Big World between 15,200km and 16,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1.1G and 1.5G. The horizon will appear about 5.7km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
- It has a surface gravity of 1.55 G.
- It experiences frequent geological activity, including earth tremors and volcanism.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Kozol has an Exotic Atmosphere and possesses an unusual gas mix which requires the use of oxygen tanks. Additionally, protective suits, while not necessary, are recommended. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences generally moderate temperatures.
- Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere push up the world's surface temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Kozol has 35-45% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice heavily tainted with other substances, which makes it dangerous, corrosive, or toxic. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds may be Hell Worlds.
- The water on the surface may be unsuitable for use or consumption without extensive filtering and purification.
- Refining for fuel may cause issues with shipboard purification plants.
The dense, largely nitrogen atmosphere contains significant amounts of volcanic gases as well as mercury vapor and radon gas.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
Kozol is a huge, high gravity world that has been built up by large mass impacts over billions of years, the most recent of which appear to have occurred no less than 300 million years ago and appear to have involved large mercury-rich planetoids. The world continues to exhibit extremely dynamic and unpredictable geological activity as a result of these impacts and has a heavily fractured surface.
History & Background[edit]
Kozol has been inhabited for approximately 100 years. It is named for the Imperial Aslan explorer that originally charted the world.
World Starport[edit]
Kozol has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Technology Level[edit]
Kozol possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-2.
World Government[edit]
Kozol is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law Level[edit]
Kozol has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Demographics[edit]
The world population averages 20,000.
Humaniti 80%
Aslan 10%
Other 10%
World Culture[edit]
The culture is a hodgepodge of desperate or motivated peoples from the Euxene French worlds and the Massinan sphere.
As the highly toxic environment required the use of pressurized vacuum suits, all normal activities are inside. The high gravity makes all physical activities more difficult and more dangerous. While long-term inhabitants typically have an extensive musculature, they also typically eventually accrue multiple bone breaks, and spinal compressions. Most sports tend to minimize impacts and falls, and often involve exoskeletons or robotic stand-ins.
That said, anti-gravitics are used where necessary to lessen stress in certain circumstances. They are in constant use in the downport, and in the Kozolus luxury arcology. The other residential zones have it installed, but until the additional power cores can be added and brought online, have access to it at a reduced setting.
Burial customs involve exposure of the deceased on a low concrete altar, either on a nearby plateau or in a series of shallow catacombs that are designed to allow atmospheric flow. The unique atmosphere causes the deceased to be quickly coated in a layer of molten mercury, allowing for preservation of the body and their facial features under a continually renewing thin reflective surface.
Urbanization[edit]
The Kozol downport is a solidly built edifice on a high plateau overlooking the mercury ocean. The denizens have constructed a system of redundant roads and 2 heavy rail systems which allow travel down to the various mining locations. There is a recently constructed liquid mercury pipeline with a series of high-power pumps that moves mercury directly to the starport; this advancement allows for rapid and low cost mercury export as frozen ingots in any starship hold capable of transporting materials at or about -40 degrees.
There are residential areas located near any of the mining areas, but none close to the ocean.
