Guaran is a rich, pre-agricultural world with a moderate population over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in size.
- The world's agricultural industry is growing and some economists forecast an explosion in this world's agribusiness in the near future as new agro-technology and a more capable labor force are imported.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- This world has high-grade living conditions with a good climate and a non-harmful environment. As such, this world is much sought after with large queues for immigration here.
- The world has a Data Repository or a centralized collection of information and data.
- The world serves as the subsector capital with the significant extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a chilly tundra world, with a climate of low temperatures.
- It is a member of the Hive Federation in the Hive Subsector of Ricenden Sector.
- This world has a Naval Base, usually associated with military starships.
- This world has a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces.
- This was the original Hiver homeworld.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

System Data[edit]
Guaran orbits a close binary star.
- The primary -- literally named Primary Star -- is a K1 V star, thus dimmer and cooler than Sol. Luminosity is 0.35 sol. Effective temperature is 4740°K. Radius is 0.834 sol. Mass is 0.77 sol.
- Primary has a red dwarf companion (M0 V) with a radius of 0.18 sol. This companion, Regolith Star (sometimes called the Eyestalk because of its resemblance to a Hiver eye) makes a negligible contribution to the overall brightness of Primary.
Worlds[edit]
The system features the following:
- The mainworld, homeworld of the Hivers.
- Four other worlds
- Some sources note that the system has no gas giant. Others identify Ohsnay as a gas giant. The name is literally "Fuel Stop", so this may be an erroneous assumption based on the name, or else evidence of Manipulation.
- A planetoid belt
Mainworld Data[edit]
Guaran orbits Primary at 0.646 AU (orbit number 2) with a period of 187 days. Guaran rotates on its axis once in about 20 hours. Orbital eccentricity is negligible.
Guaran is 7,900 kilometers in diameter and has a standard atmosphere. Strong representation of noble gases combines with the magnetic field to provide spectacular polar aurorae.
Half of the world is covered with water oceans (divided by the continents into distinct six seas); icecaps cover about 10% of the polar regions. The average temperature for Guaran is 27.9°C.

Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
In the evolution of life on land, most animals developed a radially symmetrical nervous system and a centrally-located brain. The brain encased in the body was a survival trait, protecting it from predators and from extremes of heat and cold. Eventually, as animal life specialized, it tended toward bilateral symmetry while retaining the effects of earlier radial symmetry; one limb became a pseudo-head with a sensory cluster, the opposite limb became a tail and reproductive organ.
Native Sophont (NIL): Hiver[edit]
A Non-humanoid Major Race noted for their curiosity, distaste for violence, and manipulative agendas.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
"Gua" is Gurvin for "earth", with connotations of quasi-spiritual belonging. It would seem that the Hiver homeworld has a name meaning something like "big earth"; amusingly, this means that the Hivers and their enemy the K'kree have named their homeworlds near identically, as Kirur literally means "earth, expansive".
World Starport[edit]
Guaran has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- Guaran has a class A Starport and a trade classification of Rich.
- According to some sources, the system has a gas giant. Others dispute this; Manipulation may be involved.
World Population (P)[edit]
Guaran has a population of 700,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- This is the official population; some unofficial counts have suggested around 870 million people.
World Demographics[edit]
Of the 870 million residents, 90% are Hivers; the remaining 10% are various client races.
World Languages[edit]
Urbanization[edit]
Hiver nests within a city are usually small all-Hiver areas, with districts between them populated by a mix of races. Heavy goods typically move underground through tunnels. Little of this activity is seen at surface level and most industry is buried in the base of structures.
World Technology Level[edit]
Guaran possesses a Technology Level of TL–15 or TL-F in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Meson Communicators and Pseudo Reality Communications.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, improved collectors, and advanced Fusion+.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Advanced gravcraft.
- Air: Advanced gravcraft and speeders.
- Space: Advanced gravcraft and G-Carriers.
- FTL: Jump Drive-6.
World Government[edit]
Guaran has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
- World Social Data: Guaran has no formal government; most governmental functions are carried out by Hiver nests. Effective law level on Guaran is zero; restraints on action exist at the nest level. Guaran has a technological level of F, which is the general maximum within the Hive Federation.

World Culture[edit]
Guaran holds no special position of importance in the Hive Federation; originally the world was the Federation capital, but cosmopolitan influences and a desire to have a non-Hiver world as the seat of government for the combined Hiver and non-Hiver populations of the Federation (plus desire to have the capital nearer the Young Worlds) led to its transfer to Glea in 410. As the original Hiver homeworld, Guaran is a continuing tourist attraction, and millions of Hivers visit annually.
