Arcturus is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
- Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
- This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or above the standard for Charted Space.
- It is a member of the Altarean Confederation in the Altarean Subsector of Vanguard Reaches Sector.
- Arcturus is the capital of the Altarean Confederation. [2]
- This is the homeworld of the Murians, a sophont species and minor race.
- It has direct colonies at Dorthan, Howler, Laivons, and Tellan.
- This system supports both a Naval Base and a Military Base, under the control of the Altarean Confederation.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This system is located on the Altarean Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Arcturus is the 3rd world of the Altarea system.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Arcturus has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
No information yet available.
Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
The world's peculiar orbit leaves the poles warmer on average than the equatorial region but also subject to greater variation in temperature. Two small oceans and chains of lakes moderate temperatures somewhat.
Mainworld Map[edit]

Native Lifeforms[edit]
Arcturus has a complex biosphere with extensive native life.
The dense atmosphere allows for an abundance of flying lifeforms despite a gravity one-sixth greater than standard. Much of the land area is covered by forests of broad, dense trees of great tensile strength.
Native Sophont (NIL): Murians[edit]
An Ursinoid race who tend to democratic government.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The Murians don't have a direct name for their homeworld, referring to it by indirect and euphemistic means. Humans have named the world Arcturus, given the vaguely bear-like appearance of the natives. This shouldn't be confused with the Arcturus star system of the Solomani Rim Sector.
World Starport[edit]
Arcturus has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Naval Base, hosting vessels of the Altarean Confederation.
World Population (P)[edit]
Arcturus has a population of 3,000,000,000 sophonts (billions).
- High Population Worlds like this tend to have huge consumer markets.
- The population consists of Murians.
Urbanization[edit]
While gregarious and fond of urban development, the Murians are also fond of the forest in which they evolved. Murian cities are sprawling affairs with parks and greenbelts occupying more space than development. Trees grow higher than buildings.
- The force of afternoon storms on Arcturus influences the architecture; buildings are sturdy and of low profile, and storm surge canals channel water away from inhabited areas.
World Technology Level[edit]
Arcturus possesses a Technology Level of TL–13 or TL-D in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovideo recorders.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, prototype collectors, advanced fusion plants.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-4.
World Government[edit]
Arcturus is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
- Votes aren't winner-takes-all but involve ranking several options, with successive rounds of voting narrowing the field to choices with the most support and smallest resistance. When objection to the most popular choice remains in any way significant, a new vote with a compromise solution is often conducted.
- Any action undertaken by the Altarean Confederation requires the unanimous consent of all nine members of its governing Council and ratification by governments of the nine represented worlds, of which Arcturus is one.
