Kinorb is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

  • In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Rhylanor Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
  • It is a mainworld which is a satellite of either a gas giant or another world.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • Kinorb is a member of the Spinward Main.

Note: There is another Kinorb in the Regina Subsector of the Spinward Marches.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Stellar Data[edit]

System Data[edit]

The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:

Mainworld Data[edit]

Kinorb is a large moon of a gas giant orbiting at the very edge of the primary's habitable zone.

Gas Giant Moons 10g.jpg

The mainworld and its gas giant primary orbit within the star's Habitable Zone.

  • They lie at the outer edge of the zone's colder outer H- region.
  • They receive lower levels of stellar energy.

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Kinorb is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Kinorb has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Though the world's oceans are liquid, huge regions of the surface are crusted with thick ice and dotted with icebergs, allowing little moisture to evaporate into the atmosphere. The very low temperatures serve to reduce what little atmospheric water vapor there is, freezing it into airborne crystals that fall as snow. This results in an extremely dry atmosphere that can cause temporary (though very uncomfortable) respiratory difficulties.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Kinorb has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.

  • The world's oceans are littered with icebergs and crusted with ice sheets and dense pack ice.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

The world is ruled by a highly selective religious order named the Sacred Brotherhood of Kinorb.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Kinorb has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Kinorb has a population of 50,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are most commonly heard:

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Kinorb possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Kinorb is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

The Sacred Brotherhood of Kinorb, a religious group, controls the world.

World Law (L)[edit]

Kinorb has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]

Kinorb, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

Trade Data[edit]

  • Importance: -1 (unimportant)

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: 8 (moderate)
  • Labor: 3 (thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 2 (extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: -4 (very poor)

World Culture[edit]

  • Heterogenity: 1 (monolithic)
  • Acceptance: 3 (xenophobic)
  • Strangeness: 2 (typical)
  • Symbols: 6 (somewhat concrete)
