Candory is a nonindustrial world, that requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
- In a technological universe, societies without industrial capability generally suffer as nearly all manufactured and high tech goods must be brought in at significant cost.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Five Sisters Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world contains an archaeological site with suspected high-tech remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
- This is a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
- It lies within the Greater Collace Rift.
- The population entirely consists of Droyne.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Candory is a binary star system.
- The primary is a white main sequence.
- The secondary is a red main sequence.
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belts.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Discovered in 802 at the same time as Andor, this world is an almost perfect copy, right down to background radiation and stellar type. The exception is that Candory is much drier, and the Droyne population is only found on the northern continent, clustered around the starport.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Candory is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Candory has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. While a Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
- It experiences moderate to high temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Candory has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
A map of Candory.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Biologists investigating Candory’s flora and fauna have marked some of the local bacteria as genetically engineered, possibly to adjust the atmospheric gas mix. Some surface lifeforms share genetic sequences with the Droyne, suggesting that they, too, came from Eskayloyt; some don't. The fossil record hasn't been studied sufficiently to determine which are the native lifeforms and which are the interlopers.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Candory is a Forbidden World and is designated as a Red Zone. It presents serious risks and dangers due to the environment or native life forms, laws or customs, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors.
- Travel to this world is prohibited.
- The Interdict does not extend to Droyne, who may freely travel to and from the world.
Like Andor, Candory is interdicted by an Imperial Interstellar Scout Service squadron, backed up by a considerable naval presence.
Candory is an archaeological site, believed to contain the remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Candory has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Candory has a population of 9,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population entirely consists of Droyne.
Droyne organise themselves into oytripin, which consist of multiple tyafelmin and dreskayin, and can produce kroylosses.
Linguistic Topography[edit]
The following languages are most commonly heard:
- Oynprith, a ceremonial and ritualistic language, apparently universal among Droyne and Chirper communities.
- Droyne Languages: Other languages are used in casual day-to-day affairs.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Candory possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Candory is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
- This is an approximation, loosely describing the traditional Droyne system of leadership by one of the six castes.
The population of Droyne on the northern continent is divided into a number of oytripin.
- Pyodu: This oytrip is expansionist and progressive, at least by Droyne standards, and trades freely with the few offworlders permitted to land. The starport is on lands leased from this oytrip; a number of interpreters speak Anglic and other offworld tongues.
- Itru: This oytrip is more neutral and conservative in its approach. It has been known to deal with aliens, but does so with caution. Those who wish to deal with them must do so through an interpreter who speaks Oynprith.
- Usayldaysk: This oytrip is hostile to outsiders, whether alien or fellow Droyne.
World Law (L)[edit]
Candory has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
