Kwan is a low-population garden world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.
- It is a garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most forms of sophontic life.
- Both the population and economy of this world are expected to grow in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Solomani Confederation in the Theta Aurigae Subsector of Aldebaran Sector.
- This is a temperate world, with a climate of pleasant, average temperatures, considered to be an ideal or near-ideal environment by many different sophont species.
Description / Astrography & Planetology
System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x5 secondary rocky worlds.
- x1 planetoid belt.
- x1 gas giant.
Mainworld Data
Pristine garden world.
Mainworld Size (S)
Kwan is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Kwan has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Kwan has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly watery world.)
Native Lifeforms
Abundant native life occupying every available ecological niche. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
Kwan has a wide variety of both local flora and fauna. The seas have a variety of life, including edible species for most sophonts.
The Downport is dubbed Norbertport, after the surviving first mate of the colony ship.
The port also contains a large, popular bar which profanely dubbed (ahem) "F the Captain", and is occasionally referred to as "Captain F". (Only they don't say "F".)
Historical Data
Kwan was originally discovered and surveyed by Cpt. Jon Smið of the Waiferar (J4, over 4000t). As was his wont, Captain Smið insisted on naming the planet but held off on the decision, saying he would do it when he arrived with colonists. Unfortunately, the Captain was highly inebriated when he transmitted his survey and instead sent the data for an unknown barren system, which was then logged as official data. Thinking no more of it, he spend years creating a colony mission, but only recruited around 1000 individuals due to conflicting official data.
The final leg of the journey was from Victori, and Captain decided to follow the example of his friend, Capitain Antoine de Bougainville of the Colony ship Voyageur (Ivraie), and got quite drunk before entering the final astrogational jump values. The jump was a miracle; the Waiferar arrived exactly at the target planet. To be clear, the ship dropped out of jump space at the edge of the atmospheric blanket, at speed.
Between the captain's quick reflexes and the automated systems, the ship managed to pull up from a dive in a 10g turn. The ship then skipped across the waves and ramped off the beach into the coastal forest beyond, coming to rest between 2 hills with its nose on a third. The turn and soft ocean impact event itself probably killed over a hundred, and many were injured by the final impact on land, including the Captain.
The first mate found the Captain at the forward area of the bridge, where he had been thrown. The Captain was obviously injured badly, but the mate, still stunned, asked inanely, "What do you name the planet, Captain?"
The Captain looked up, said,"Kwan?"...and died. And so the Captain named his last system.
The Scout Service discovered the colony a few years later, on a routine follow up on the registered colonization mission. The population declared that they would be happy to join the Solomani Confederation if they were provided with a modern Class-A starport for their pristine garden world. And so, a deal was struck.
