System Data[edit]

Euxene Prime is a younger, G-class star at about 3B years old.

Euxene Minor, also known as Papillon locally, is a smaller, red dwarf that is apparently approximately the same age.

  • Orbit is in AU or planetary radii for satellites
  • Diam = diameter in miles (X 1.609 for km)
  • Dens = average density in g/cc
  • Grav = 'surface' gravity in G's
  • Rot/Rev = rotation or revolution period in hours (h), days (d), or years (y) ; tl = tide-locked

Mainworld Data[edit]

The Euxene main world is a younger, rocky world of standard size and gravity. It still retains a large amount of its atmosphere, and has the expected high amount of tectonic activity.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Euxene has several high and volcanic mountain ranges. Because the mapped tectonic plates move rapidly, there are also an equal number of mid-plate mountain ranges that have eroded to more moderate heights, in the 15000m zone. There are 2 large seas on Euxene connected by a lengthy system of lakes, near the equator and at the 45th parallel offset by approximately 45 degrees of longitude. The river systems extend to the East (spinward) to a lowpoint lake up against a volcanic range, the Arret. This arrangement results in about half of the planet being exceptionally dry or outright desert.

The atmosphere is a nitrogen, oxygen, helium mix at 1.4 atm at sealevel. This pressure decreases to roughly 1.1 atm at 1km above sealevel.

Most Euxene urban zones are found on the sides of the mid-plate ranges along the mid-Ocean lake systems, though a hardy breed of lowlanders have built cities on the lakes and oceans. The inhabited mountain range cities typically receive a large amount of precipitation as either rain or snow, and the architecture reflects this, with high pointed roofs, reinforced buildings, and covered thoroughfares. Euxene mountain regions are famous for their exceptionally large snowflakes.

The mountain cities cluster thickly around the 0.7 to 1.5 km elevations along the ranges, with the higher priced real estate being located at higher altitudes. Wide tunnels provide both travel shortcuts, and additional sheltered residential zones within the mountains themselves. These structures give rise of many cheese references.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

A wide variety of plant life flourishes across the wet zones of Euxene, and very few of those plants are toxic.

The fauna developed locally are evolved with respect to their tolerance for humidity or lack thereof. In the wet zone, fauna tend toward reptile-analogs, while in the arid region, mid-size arthropods dominate.

Common examples are:

  • Lesdragons: a 500kg beast with 4 legs, a spiked back bone and head. Fairly docile plant eater with good hearing and infrared-shifted sight.
  • Semmalt: a 50kg spider analog capable of surviving in arid climes. Quick, prehensile, and venomous, it is an effective predator. Note that its venom is effective only against local fauna, though its bites are quite traumatic to most sophonts. Semmalts are attuned to vibration patterns, but use wide-spectrum vision for hunting within a kilometer or two of prey.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Euxene is a member of (and the namesake of) the Euxene Cluster, a small but important cluster and a major trade center lying in the spinward-coreward quadrant of Aldebaran Sector.

It is host to a major regional headquarters of ZeeCorp.

Solomani Security keeps a close eye on things to ensure the security of the Confederation and the well-being of its loyal citizens. Almost anyone could be a SolSec informant, passing on all sorts of useful information: some gain a reward or benefit for their actions, others are coerced, but many see it as an act of duty to help protect the Solomani state and its interests.

World Starport[edit]

Euxene has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Euxene has a pair of high ports, Le Main and Le Gauntlet. Le Main is the primary port for commercial and tourist travellers, while Le Gauntlet is primarily military and government-focused trade.

The main Downport is Le Fut, between the mountain-cities (Geneve, Grenoble, and Château) and the lake region cities (Nice, Cannes, Trouville-sur-Bleu, and Marseille). There is a smaller Downport to the East of the Arret range near where the Arretville cities begin.

The military Downport is simply Port Militaire. There appears to be a secondary military Downport in the Western Arid Zone, but it does not appear to be common knowledge.

World Technology Level[edit]

Euxene is a cornerstone of the Aldebaran high-technology triangle (Darsei-Euxene-Home).

Euxene possesses a Technology Level of TL–14 or TL-E in Hexadecimal Notation.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early meson communicators.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Miniature super-batteries, early collectors, and advanced fusion plants.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:

World Government[edit]

Euxene is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.

World Law Level[edit]

Euxene has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military[edit]

Euxene maintains a professional military, and requires 6 years of service from all citizens, with exceptions for health. The bulk of the military supports the Starnavy of the Republic and its marines, but a respectable ground combat force is also maintained and can be deployed off-world as needed. There is a token wet navy maintained for patrolling the local oceans and waterways.

World Economy[edit]

Euxene has a full-fledged world economy with multiple entities in each Industry.

World Culture[edit]

  • Progressiveness: Conservative and Interested
  • Aggressiveness: Neutral and Engaging
  • Extensiveness: Harmonious and Friendly

Cultural Extension (Cx):

  • Homogeneity: Discordant (7)
    • (Homogeneity is a measure of the degree to which members of society hold common beliefs. Members of very homogeneous cultures are in strong agreement on the fundamentals of society (usually basic rights, religion, and methods of interaction). Members of non-homogeneous cultures hold many different beliefs on the fundamentals of society.)
  • Acceptance: Very Xenophilic (D)
    • (Acceptance is the degree of xenophobia ( or xenophilia ) in the culture. High Acceptance is evidenced by friendliness to outsiders and offworlders; Low Acceptance is characterized by fear or rejection of outsiders.)
  • Strangeness: Somewhat distinct (4)
    • (Strangeness is the degree of difference from the norms of interstellar society. High Strangeness is evidenced by unusual or outwardly incomprehensible actions, statements, or responses in the course daily activity. Low Strangeness reflects activities close to interstellar norms.)
  • Symbols: Very abstract (D)
    • (Symbols used by the culture may range from the concrete (idols; totems; statuary) to the abstract (symbolized belief systems; group affiliations).)
