Awakened	Sophont	The Awakened are conventional robots, that have been taken over by the Virus. This sophont species is believed to be related to the Cyms of Charted Space.
Chip AKA Cyms	Sophont	The Chips or Cyms are a mineral lifeform that evolved to be bale to hijack or take over conventional electronics. The Cyms appear to be the cornerstone species for infotoids, mechanimorphs, and other dry, non-wet forms of life within Charted Space.
Essaray	Sophont	Little is conclusively known about the Essaray, but they appear to be infotoids or mechanimorphs. This sophont species is not believed to have originated within Charted Space.
Vampire	Sophont	Many of the Cyms evolved to becomes Vampires and took over supercomputers such as City Minds or Ship Minds. This sophont species is believed to be related to the Cyms of Charted Space.

History & Background (Dossier)

Most biologists agree that a creature should exhibit at least three of the characteristics associated with Infotoids to qualify as an Infotoid, though others set the limit at two. The term is necessarily generic.

It is relatively common for a creature to meet sufficient criteria to qualify as more than one classification of animal.
