The Uffan class Monitor is a defensive warship.
- It is a Military ship and a monitor.
Description (Specifications)
They are unstreamlined buffered planetoid hulls. They float drifting throughout the system on long parabolic orbital tracks. They have a very low power signature, the tiny fusion power plant and maneuver drive package only requires a pair of dedicated engineers. The lack of combat agility is seen as a limitation of the design. When they light up targets, usually from ambush the four massive missile barrages, combined with the virtual immunity to return fire, make them surprisingly effective for a relatively primitive design.
- They are massively armored to resist all surface strikes. Only meson weapons and nuclear ordinance have any chance to damage these ships.
- It ordinarily carries no subcraft nor drones.
- It has a # sophont crew and # marines.

Basic Ship Characteristics
Following the Imperial Navy and IISS Universal Ship Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (...of ten subcraft) carried on the ship. Tonnage on the universal ship profile is shown in kilotons (...thousands of tons) where necessary. | 1. | Tonnage / Hull | The Uffan class Monitor class is constructed using a 4,000 Ton fusion-tunneled Buffered Planetoid hull. It is unstreamlined and cannot operate in anything denser than Trace atmospheres without risking catastrophic structural failure.
|
| 2. | Crew | x48 personnel. 11 command, 2 engineering, 9 gunnery, and 8 service. There are 11 Marines.
Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems.
|
| 3. | Performance | The vessel mounts a Maneuver-1 drive and a Power Plant-1, giving performance of 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 0. The internal fuel tankage gives the power plant 4 weeks duration.
|
| 4. | Electronics | Adjacent to the bridge are two Model/3 fib computers: with automatic fail over mirroring.
|
| 5. | Hardpoints | x40 hardpoints. |
| 6. | Armament | The normal weapons fit-out is: |
| 7. | Defenses | In addition to the inherent protection offered by its planetoid structure the hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 15.
|
| 8. | Craft | x2 40T Pinnace subcraft. |
| 9. | Fuel Treatment | The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 40 Tons.
|
| 10. | Cost | The basic cost of the vessel is MCr2,578.346
|
| 11. | Construction Time | 115 weeks as standard.
|
| 12. | Comments | The ship has a 35 dton cargo hold. There are five currently in service. |
History & Background (Dossier)
Uffan class Monitor class System Defense Monitors are built for Uffan (world). They form the basic battle line of the Uffan Strategic Space Forces. The vessel is a fusion-tunneled buffered asteroid: the interior compartments are protected by heavy armor plates and the craft has extensive structural bracing. The design is built around its four large missile bays. They carry a small section of marines for boarding actions and inspections. They are reliant on their subcraft for interface operations, and refueling.
