Rias'qanaa has both a thin tainted atmosphere and no surface water which makes habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and a million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Zeda Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Rias'qanaa, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Kuukke Nim.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

Rias'qanaa is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

Stellar Data[edit]

Rias'qanna has a solitary primary star.

Mainworld Data[edit]

A dead world, Rias'qanaa was once a moon in orbit around the gas giant, Ghirl. Excavations have proved that it once had an atmosphere as well as an extensive jungle ecosystem teeming with life. About two million years ago the planet was knocked out of orbit, killing all life. It eventually entered an elliptical orbit around the sun.

Native Lifeform: Xiuhcoatl[edit]

An extinct, eight metre long lizard-like creature whose fossilized remains were first uncovered on Ekha (Dagudashaag 0137) in 732, though the fossils weren't native to the system. A legend claimed that the Xiuhcoatl were capable of expelling hydrogen, which they then ignited using swallowed flints in their first stomach.

History and Background[edit]

Rias'qanaa is home to an excavation team from the Amec university of Epantia, attempting to prove that the legendary Xiuhcoatl once lived here prior to the disaster.

In 844 similar fossils were discovered on Feym'n (Dagudashaag 0236) though it was impossible to confirm that, despite appearances, they belonged to the same species. Later, similar fossils were found on Zeda (Dagudashaag 0721), Eddum (Dagudashaag 0531) and Nimluin (Dagudashaag 0736).

Most Imperial scientists believe that the Xiuhcoatl fossils have been deliberately seeded to create a mystery. However, scientists in the Amec Trade Protectorate do not share this belief. If the Xiuhcoatl is proved to originate on Rias'qanaa, this may also demonstrate that a race with deep space capability inhabited the space around Bolivar and Zeda subsectors over four million year ago.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Rias'qanaa has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Historical Data[edit]

Timeline[edit]

Major events that have affected this world and the wider region that it lies within:

  • -2404 to -2215: To trailing and rimward, the Interstellar Wars are waged.
  • -2204 to -1776: The Rule of Man administers the worlds of the region.
  • -1776 to 0: The Long Night.
  • -692: During a period of expansion by the Ushran Empire, missionaries from the Universal Church of God arrive on Fau to convert the colonists.
  • -672: The Ushrans pull out of Fau, after massacring the locals.
  • -642: War breaks out between the Ziadd and the Ushran Empire.
    • Outmatched by the Ushran navy, the war goes badly for the Ziadd.
  • -639: The Ushran capture Zeda after a long and bloody campaign.
  • -600: The Ushran Empire has conquered most of the former Ziadd worlds. Remaining Ziadd forces, now scattered, begin a campaign of corsair activity to support the ongoing rebellions on the Ziadd planets.
  • Circa -400: The Zeda Alignment corsairs begin to capture whole worlds, the Ushran Navy no longer able to keep them at bay.
  • The Year 0: The Third Imperium is founded.
  • 46: A series of uprisings on Zeda, supported by the corsairs, sufficiently weaken military control of the world.
  • 65: The Ziadd rebellion, supported by the regular troops of the corsair bands, retake Zeda. For the first time in more than six centuries, the Ziadd homeworld is back under Ziadd control.
  • 96: The overwhelming might of the Third Imperium forces the Ziadd to choose another long war or integration. They choose to join the Imperium.
  • 300-420: The First Survey charts the system.
  • 604 to 622: The Imperial Civil War.
