Description (Specifications)[edit]

Sizes of Military Unit[edit]

The Imperial Army Ground Force Command regularly deploys the following standard sizes of military unit:

  • Battalion: Also referred to as a Squadron, Cohort, or (confusingly) a "Regiment" in some branches. Composed of several sub-units of Company-size. Commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel
  • Regiment: Composed of several Battalions. Commanded by a Colonel. This is the smallest unit typically independently deployed on a single world. Often administrative, or used of a Ceremonial Regiment composed of multiple functional or administrative "Regiments" or Battalions.

» The Ground Force Command further subdivides its basic military unit (the Battalion) into the following standard-sized military sub-units:
· The foundational sub-unit is the several-soldier Team.

The Imperial Marines deploy a set of smaller units.

  • Planetary Deployments:
  • Task Force: A group of several Marine Companies and/or other specialist sub-units drawn on an ad hoc basis from a Marine Regiment and tailored for a particular mission objective. Commanded by a Force Commander.
  • Battalion: A unit composed of multiple Marine Companies, normally deployed as such only during wartime or other major operations, commanded by a Lieutenant Coronel.
  • Regiment: Either a groupment of several Marine Battalions deployable for large scale operations, or a groupment of multiple Marine Companies and specialist sub-units that can be reorganized on an ad hoc basis into Task Forces tailored for particular mission objectives. Commanded by a Coronel
  • Brigade: Normally a grouping of Marine Regiments and/or Task Forces and specialist units formed from elements of the Rapid Reaction Force assembled for a particular mission objective under the command of a Marine Brigadier during large-scale operations.
  • Marine Division: A large unit composed of multiple Marine Battalions, Regiments, and/or Brigades during wartime or other major operations, commanded by a Brigadier-General, possibly including the appointment of a Brigadier-General to the position of Marine Marshal over the Theater of Operations if the operational scale is large enough. Marine Divisions are always ad-hoc units. (e.g. 99th Provisional Imperial Marine Division).
  • Shipboard Deployments:
